My 4th Great Grandfather (Nicholas Glosser) had the Closser name when he first moved to Washington TWP. in Muskingum County, Ohio. He moved there from Butler County, Ohio. It is strange on the Spelling of the name. I assume with the German Accent many people wrote it down wrong. Nicholas was the Twin to Polly. Nicholas is buried only about 20 minutes from where I live today. I would love to find out more information about him and his family. I have read that much of the family went on into Indiana, some stayed in Ohio and some in Pennsylvania. I am really looking for more information about his father who was also named Nicholas and on to his father, etc... If anyone has any more information on this, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me.

uppdr@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Eric Glosser

Hi Diane -
We've corresponded in the past because of our mutual ancestors (Heaveners and Willsons), and I'm wondering if you could fill in a few blanks for me (and I, of course, am willing to share any info I have that you might be interested in)?

I have that your father (George Warren Closser was my husband's second cousin once removed) was born on 10 Mar 1915, but I don't have the city - could you share that with me?

I also have that he died in November of 1981 in Royal Oak, but I don't have the exact day, and I don't have the name of the cemetery he was buried in.

Also, I have that your grandmother Eleanor Heavener (my husband's first cousin twice removed) was born in May 1892 in Royal Oak, but again, I don't have the exact day, and I also don't have any of her death or burial info.

And do you have any death and burial information on your great grandmother Mary Willson (who married Warren Heavener)? Mary was my husband's great grand-aunt.

I look forward to your response, and would love to help you with anything I can.

Sincerely,
Katherine Willson

Hi Debbie,
I've studied the Clossers in PA and have met some of their desc who now live in Indiana. I'm fascinated by two things. The Census Bureau states that the surname Closser only occurs one in every 9 million persons, so it isn't a common name, even though it may be in a certain area.
Second, there were and are Clossers in NY, whom I'm related to. Christopher Closser served throughout the entire Rev War, so they had to be there prior to 1776. I realize that State boundries were not adhered to back then a today, and PA and NY are touching. But I'm very interested in whether all the Closser lines came via PA or if there was more than one line. Would you have any information on any NY Closser lines?
Thanks.
Leonard

Leah Closser was my maternal grandmother. She was married to Clarence "Dutch" Willard who was a metallurgical engineer. They lived in Denver and had 5 children, Kathryn, Betty Mae, Janet (born 10/29/1920), Clarence (George) and June. Kathryn and Janet are still alive. Kathryn lives in Loveland, CO and Janet lives in Little Rock, AR. Janet is my mother. Kathryn married Bill Propp and had 2 sons. They divorced, the best I can recall, in the late 1960's. Betty Mae married Bill Lewis and had a son and daughter. Betty Mae died several years ago in the Denver area. Janet, my mother, married Damon Royce in May, 1942 in Denver. She had 3 children, Shirley, David and Wendy(me). George and June never married. George died in New York City early 1990's and June died in San Francisco about the same time. Leah died in Denver when I was 5, which would have been about 1963. Dutch died prior to my birth in 1958.

Ethel Rose Closser was born 25 Mar. 1913 in Illinois I believe. Ethel died Ethel Rose Rightnowar on 3 Feb. 1967 in Missouri. Ethel Rose married Clarence M. Rightnowar - I believe they lived in the lower part of Missouri around Winona. Does anyone out there know anything on the Closser family Ethel Rose may have come from. I have searched for this name for some time and I am beginning to think they really didn't exist. I just came across this site today and am hoping since there are some Closser's out there someone has came across this family.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Sharon

I never was able to tie him to a parent in the Closser line. Since he served 1776-1781 those dates could make him a brother - or son - your Closser.
Edith F CLOSSER (maiden name Crandall and resided in or near Detroit, Michigan approx. 100 yrs ago in the early 1900s), later of Tunas, Missouri (near Springfield) my grandmother, born April 5, 1887, birthplace unknown but possibly Chicago???, died Aug 15, 1966 in Springfield, MO. She was married to Clarence A CLOSSER, originally from or near Detroit, Michigan and also later of Tunas, Missouri (near Springfield) my grandfather, birth year unknown but year of death was 1956 I believe. I remember seeing him twice as a young child in Tunas, MO. The second time I saw him he was near death. Information I have come across indicates my grandparents were married in Ontario, Canada most likely prior to 1909. Further information indicates that Clarence A Clossers' father was named Thao Closser. This man would have been my great-grandfather... My father was Leroy (Roy) Closser, (8-8-09 to 1985) one of several brothers and sisters whose parents were Clarence A CLOSSER and Edith F CLOSSER (Crandall). For more info you may contact me at stationaryengineer@msn.com Thank you. Warren Edwin Closser, St. Louis, MO

I will e-mail my sister and have her get in touch with our brother as he is moving tomorrow and I didn't pick up his e-mail address last time I was with him .
I had an extremely successful trip. It seems like one of the people on the board listed a book that had information on James Willson who is related to the Clossers in our line by marriage. It could take us back to William the Conquerer, there is just one missing link, but the lady who wrote the book claimed to have had access to the chart making the connection. Sadly for you the Clossers are not mentioned anyplace.

I spent 5.5 hours there and finally left. The Allen County Public Library catalog is on line. If you have specific leads, I will be glad to look them up and e-mail them to you.
Diane

Hello Wendy:
Yea! I've waited 20 years to learn of Horace and Leah. Horace's brother, Albert, is my grandfather. I found them in Wisconsin, then found Leah in SD, but that was the end, until now. How exciting. I have the Closser line back from Albert and Horace, if you need it. I have a photo of Leah when she went to teachers college in Milwaukee also. I'm so glad you posted this information, as Horace as been the lost sheep for so long.
Leonard Lorge, Hudsonville, Michigan

I am not directly related. Nicholas W. Closser and Sarah ann Closser married Rebecca and William D. Parker. Brother and sister married sister and brother. I have some information on the Parkers part of it, plus information from Ancestry World Tree. I can share with anyone, but, my information in this area is sketchy since these Parkers were my GGGrand Father's brother and sister.

George H.
I have searched for information on my gggradfather Nicholas Glosser. I have found the sight he is buried at in Bethesda Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio. I was sent information that the name Glosser was derived from Closser and the information has Nicholas Closser listed. It also has his siblings. Only the birth date of Nicholas is listed. When I called the person who had sent me the information he told me it was all he had on Nicholas. I have documentation that he (Nicholas) married Elizabeth Lamar in Zanesville, Ohio on 4/11/1821. He was born 1787 d 10/19/1840 this is inscribed on his stone. I was reading one message where the Nicholas Closser had several wives so maybe. I would be glad to share what I have to see if this could be the Nicholas in my family.
Marie
