Hi

Three years from your original message but only with a question of my own Im afraid - and its a long shot!

My grandfather was born in Whitechapel (London Eng) in 1887.

He is listed in the UK 1891 census as Robert Cayzer CLOAK and living in Cornwall as a "visitor" with a couple called Cayzer. By 1901 he is shown as the adopted son of the Cayzers. I am hoping that he was the son of a Cayzer daughter who married a Cloak.

As I know this question is coming rigt from out field but do you know anything of your family in England in the early 1800s?

Thanks for your time and best wishes

Graham Cayzer

I have not been able to find any more information on my Mary Ann Cloak Prouty Nelson. Family oral history indicates she was from Crawford Co. Ohio, married a Prouty and was widowed, then married a widower, James Nelson. Their son Samuel is my great grandfather. I have not been able to ascertain who her parents were or where her ancestors came from. Sorry I could not be of help.

My family arrived here via 16 year-old Richard Ely Cloak from Hythe, Kent in England, 1823. Don't know anything of him before this yet, or if there is any connection with your Robert, however. Very few Cloaks in Australia.

Thanks for that. Lots of Cloaks in Whitechapel around about the time of Jack the Ripper! still haven't found a Robert born in the right place at the right time yet though
