John Michael Clingman is my 5th great grandfather through Cyrus. Do you happen to have a will listing all of John Michael's children? I need it for DAR documentation.
Cyris daughter Elizabeth married John Neil. Their son Arthur Densmore married Izetta Neil; their son Harry William m Florence Lucille Neil; their daughter Nancy Joanne married my father Edwin Mashburn. I have all dates of birth/death, marriages, etc. if you would like them.

I am trying to contact any direct male descendants of John Michael Clingman, Jacob Clingman, Peter Clingman or George Clingman all of whom were in PA in the mid 1700's.

I also am trying to contact direct male descendants of Alexander Clingman who was in Rowan Co., NC by 1754 and had sons George, Peter, Henry, Michael and Jacob Clingman.

I especially need current email addresses for Vern L. Klingman, Warren Clingman, Joe P. Clingman and William F. Clingman. I believe the last two people live in or near Winston Salem, NC.

Please keep in mind, especially in the early generations, many spellings of the Clingman name were used interchangeably, as were the "C" and "K".

You may contact me through this message board or directly at bj213@bellsouth.net

Looking for Frederick Clingman

I just started researching the Clingmans. My person of interest is Frederick Clingman from Amsburg, Ontario Canada. He was one of Norah Jackson's husband. Frederick's parents were Eratus Clingman and Elizabeth Brooks, both from Ontario. I believe Frederick was white and Norah was black. They settled in Detroit/Flint area and spread to the Columbus Ohio region. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am descended from DAR patriot John Michael Clingman, and my great grandmother was Ella Clingman Rowland, the daughter of George Washington Clingman and his wife Nancy Walkey. Some time ago, the descendants of John Michael Clingman had a family reunion, and there was a placemat made of photos. The photos included, I think, Ella's father GW Clingman. (There were two gents named Geo. Washington Clingman in this family.) I HAD a copy of the placemat from Gordon Clingman, now deceased. I cannot find my copy and need another one!!!
Sarah Clingman of Scioto Co., OH is the widow of John Michael Clingman. She was his second wife.

Her first husband was James Tomlinson, which would be why her heirs were Tomlinsons. Sarah's maiden name was Yarnell.

John Michael Clingman's daughter Barbara (Sarah's stepdaughter) was married to Uriah Barber - the Jno and Jos Barber you listed would likely be grandsons of Uriah and Barbara.

Hope this helps!

Sarah Clingman estate, Scioto Co., OH

In Scioto Co., OH I found an estate for a Sarah Clingman, which must be her married name. It appears that Sarah must have died around 1836. The administrator of her estate is William Jackson. Based on the estate papers and deeds that I found, all her heirs were Tomlinsons. The land that is being sold was originally owned by a Barr, then sold to Jesse Tomlinson. This is the summary listed in the deed book:
Recorder of Deeds listing for Lot 50, Front Street, City of Portsmouth, Scioto Co., OH also deeded was 40 acres of land elsewhere in the county.

1836 John Ketchum to Wm. Jackson 1/6 int of Mrs. Ketchum
1838 Jno & Jos Barber ¾ of 1/6 heirs of Tomlinson
1838 Henry Tomlinson 1/6 heir of Tomlinson
1839 S. A. Barber ¼ of 1/6 heir of Tomlinson
1840 S. D. Tomlinson et al 1/6 heir of Tomlinson
1840 Susan Tomlinson 1/6 heir of Tomlinson (willed to her by her husband, James Tomlinson.)

Tomlinson, Nancy m Barber, Samuel Sep 12, 1812 - this explains the Barber heirs

Tomlinson, Sally m Ketcham, John Jan 4, 1818 - this explains the Ketcham heirs

In a local history book, I found an Alfred Jackson b 1856 listed as the s/o Wm. Jackson, m 1)Melissa Smith in 1852 she d1856 2)Elizabeth Bennett; s/o Wm. Jackson and Rachel Tomlinson, natives of Northumberland Co., PA who came to OH in 1817. This explains Wm. Jackson as the administrator with his wife as an inheritant.

The Stephen D. Tomlinson et al, as nearly as I can discern, is the son of John Tomlinson.

But, WHO is Sarah Clingman and why is her property all being inherited by Tomlinsons?

Another history book has an odd entry from "Mr. Peebles Journals" saying on Lot 50 lived Mrs. Tomlinson. Her children were Jacob, George W. and John Clingman and Mrs. Aaron Kinney. Lot 50 is part of the land that is being sold as part of Sarah Clingman's estate.

Is anyone familiar with this Clingman family?

LouAnn Cameron

Dear, Mr. Gordon I believe I too am a descendent of JMC. If I have done my home work it is as follows JMC would be my 5th great grandfather and as follows Abner Briggs 4th, John 3rd, Bert Wayne 2nd, Leonard Lee 1st, Wayne William my grandfather, and William Dean Clingman my father. I have only been doing this for 18 months and no one in my family seems to know anything of any help. I did find a great Aunt of whom gave me Leonard Lee as her father and I was able to follow the tree from there. I have come to a stand still I would like any information you have but not sure how to aquire it from you. I'm not the greatest on computers, self taught. I have found that maybe Jacob Clingman may have been JMC father do you have any information on this or brothers and sisters of JMC. By the way My father had 4 children Steven Earl 09-06-65, Carolyn Leeann 09-08-66, Jerry William 04-12-69, LeeRoy Thomas 05-21-72 Died 10-17-97. I can also, but I believe you may already have it give you the childrens names of Wayne william, and Leonard Lee Clingman. Leonard passed 12-21-1973 and is buried in Ca. Placerville, Westwood Hills Cemetery. Please if you can help me please email me at lcsc04@aol.com thank you Carolyn.

Hi,
I have no exact dates but I think that my gggrandfather Charles and his brother Edward did some photography when they lived in Pleasant Hope. The family moved to Pleasant Hope in 1884. Ed became a professional photographer and is shown so in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census he has moved to Kansas City. I'm guessing that he did the photograph in question. My father said that Charles did some photography to supplement his income, going from farm to farm, but he was primarily a farmer. Ed spelled his last name with a C in the 1900 census and K in the 1910 and 1920 census.
Who knows more about the Clingman's?
Here's what I know:

Mathilda Clingman, b. abt. 1805, Tennessee, d. aft. 1880, DeRoche, Hot Spring County, Arkansas. She was married bef. 1825 in Tennessee to William Hughes, b. abt. 1805, Rhea County (now part of Hamilton County), Tennessee, d. aft. 1860, DeRoche, Hot Spring County, Arkansas.

Their children were: James H. Hughes, Alexander Hardy Hughes, Edward Clingman Hughes, William A. Hughes, Janet (or Jennet) Hughes, General Marion Hughes, Andrew Jackson Hughes, George W. Hughes, Cynthia Ann Hughes, Caroline Hughes, and Thomas Hughes.

William Hughes moved to Clark County, Arkansas, some time between 1840 and 1850. William Hughes fought in the Civil War for the Union -- while most Arkansans fought for the Confederacy.

This Hughes line includes Francis Hughes, revolutionary war soldier, and it goes back to Wales in the 1600's. It's not known if the Clingman line came to Tennessee along with the Hughes migration from Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Any context or leads for the Clingman's will be appreciated.

--David Orr
http://home.earthlink.net/~davidorr/family/

Clingman, Mary Elizabeth in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA)

Clingman, Mary Elizabeth (Bobby)

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).

I extracted all of the names (& some other information) from the yearbook & have put them on my genealogy web site (total of 13 web pages, containing over 1,900 records; sorted alphabetically by surname).

The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site, not just data about the families I am researching. I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
