Hello distance family members.I read all the messages and after reading it I was curious to know if i were related to any of the people mentioned and if so in what way so I started looking for a booklet that had all the information about my family and I found it. page 1 clingman klingman familes descendants The subject matter and records given in the following pages have been assembled since feb. 1927. In hopes that more accurate listing can be made, a few crude duplicated are being sent to those apt to be able to "proof-read" and point cut errors as well as fill in many missing dates; also add to the records some of the familes who have not been reached or could not supply a full record these who are interested, please address : wn. d. clingman bx. 1815 richmond, califorina or bx 312 creighton. nebraska {note this was written around 1927} page 2 foreward a the first records found or reported so far, showing arrival in america of families be the name of klingman are as follow: han "georg" klingman, "georg" klingman, theodora klingman,katherine klingman ,"petter"klingman these five sailed from rotterdam holland on the ship "samuel of london" for the america. the date of sailing or arrival at philadelphia was aug.11,1732. their ages were:27,25,248 there was a "georg" klingman sailed from page 3 rotterdam, holland sept. 30, 1743 or arrived in america that date. age not given. there is a tradition that this familyname goes back to 1648, about the end of the "30 year war" when some of them left switerland or its vicinity , for holland or england . one branch of the family got to scotland and one of the men married a welsh woman; then during religious and political troubles in england they went to holland where their descendants intermarried with the dutch and acquired some of their customs and language before going to america via germany or holland.page 4 various spellings of the name prevailed , such as ; klingemann ,klinkman,klingeiman,klingemon the latter was used in scotland, and those in england , at time used "c" instead of "k" for the spelling one of these clingmans it is reported was born in germany in 1734 coming to america about 1755. it appears that some of those in england and holland, were tailors and clock-makers.in the pennsylvania archives are the following records; peter clingman owned 150 acres and more in albany township,berks county,penn.1780 page5 and was on the tax list there 1765 1766,1780. the census of 1790 in above township shows peter had 3 sons and 2 daughters, and a peter klingman of robinson township,berks co. had 2 son and 1 daughter. peter klingman was on the tax list in lynn township, northampton co. penn. in 1785 and 1786. in 1815 peter klingman took 100 acres land, and in 1798 peter klingman took 400 acres of land in luzerne co. pa. john michael clingman taxed on 24 acres land, 1 horse and 3 cattle in 1769. in 1773-4 he took 100 acres of land in northumberland co. pa. the end for today maybe I'll typ some more tomorrow if anyone wants a copy you're more than welcomed
