I am currently researching the Clearwater family that has branched into Canada. In the late 1800s, my great-great grandfather Bert Clearwater married my g-g grandmother Ella (maiden name unknown) of VA. I seem to have hit a wall there, I'm looking for any leads from this point. I'm unsure of any siblings, etc. that Bert may have had, but the Clearwater family seems to be a great deal larger than our current branch. We seem to have distant relatives in Oregon. My great grandfather was Lloyd (born 1896) and had brothers Oren, Ralph, Wilford(Buster), and sisters Alice, Irene, Gladys, and Helen. Any leads would be greatly appreciated and I'd be happy to share any info that I have!

I am of a different branch, coming from Jacob Clearwater, North Carolina. However, you might contact Dana Clowater in New Brunswick. His Uncle Alvin Clowater had done some research on the Clearwater family. Clowater was changed from Clearwater when some of the loyalist Clearwaters left N.Y. for Canada during the 1770-80. I don't have Dana's e-mail at my office but do at home. If you would like it, please respond to the address above and I will send it.

Bob, I would love Dana's email address, but have been unable to locate your address. Hope you read this. Please email me personally at kenjismom@email.msn.com. thanks so much!!

Clowater branch of the Clearwater Family
Cindy, Sorry to be so long in getting back to you. Al Clowater now has e-mail and can be reached at alcloh2o@nbnet.nb.ca He is a delightful fellow and will be thrilled to learn of another connection. He has published a rather lengthy book on the Clowater/Clearwater family. I do not know how much go into western Canada but there are a number of Clowaters in the prairie provinces.

Cindy, I am one of the Clearwaters from Oregon. My grandfather, William Clearwater, died a couple of years ago. I am told we are of Dutch ancestry and that our name was Clarvassar, or similar. I am new at this (just this morning.) Sorry I can't tell you more yet.

Lisa, The Clearwater family, at least the one I descend from is most definitely Dutch. The name is found with several spellings, Klaarwater, Clarwater, Clurwater, etc., but never with 'vasser'(which is German). It's always spelled with 'water' which is Dutch. My line comes from Ulster Co., N.Y. late 17th cent. to present. Regards, Jim C.

Lisa,
What was your great-grandfather's name? My great-grandfather Lloyd Clearwater had three brothers: Oren, Ralph, and Buster. Their father's name was Bert and lived in Saskachtewan. Any links? Thanks for replying. If there is anything that I can help you with let me know!

My great-grandfather's name was Oren Russell Clearwater. We think he was probably born in the late 1890's-early 1900's. (He served in WW I) We believe his father's name was Alonzo Clearwater, born ~1864. His father's name was David Wiley Clearwater. These last two are definate, but we may have managed to skip a generation.

A Bert Clearwater, born 2 Dec, 1872, was a brother of my great- great-grandfather, Alonzo Clearwater.
