Trying to get information on Jacob Clearman who married Hannah Swearingen? They had a daughter named Jemima, who married Ambrose Dollar. Any information you can give would be appreciated.

I have an old book on the Clearman family and will be happy to share what I can. The name "Clearman" is thought to come from the French "Clermont." The book gives our immigrant ancestor as John William Clearman who came to America in the early 1700's and he and his wife, Ann Merchant, raised a big family in NY. It is believed that they are the parents of Jacob. My info shows Jacob Clearman b. 1765 in PA; d. 1823. He received land grants in SC and probably moved to AL about 1819. The book also has a section on the family of Jemima and Ambrose Dollar, if you need it.

Thanks, Paula, for the information you posted. We have tried so hard to find out something about Jacob Clearman. His wife was supposedly Hannah Swearingen. Personally, I have never been told whom his parents could have been. If you should get any further information, I would appreciate your e-mailing me at Sincere_Susie@prodigy.net. Thanks a million!!

Vic,
Sorry, I couldn't find any information on William Clearman and Carrie Abercrombie, nor any Clearmans living in Arkansas. I have a William W. Clearman b. 1854 in MS; d. 1923. m. 1879 Bettie Taylor. They had one son named William, called "Little Willie" but there was nothing further. The age would be about right, though. Also, several Clearman families moved to Central Texas in the late 1800's, but I didn't find any connection. Wish I could be of more help to you. Good luck!
