Cleare Family in Bahamas and Key West
In researching my greatgrandmother, Loretta Carey Baker (bn 1856), I found that her mother was Sarah Cleare bn 1836. in Harbour Island. Her father was Benjamin Carey. Sarah and Benjamin married in 29 July 1852. He appearantly died by 1863. By 1870 Sarah is a widow and living in Key West with her mother Sarah Cleare 70 and her children: Benjamin 17, Lorreta14, James 12, Martha 8 and William Albury 21. According to church records her parents may have been James and Sarah Cleare of Harbour Island. If you have any information about this family either in Key West or in the Bahamas, I would be very interested. Terry

Re: Cleare Family in Bahamas and Key West
Terry, I would be interested in corresponding with you further. I am Carla Cleare Bedgood. I have a good bit about the Cleare family in the Bahamas and Key West. I do not however have anything on Sarah Cleare. I would like to make a connection if possible. I have only one James Cleare and he was born in 1941. I do not have a Sarah Cleare or a Benjamin Carey who married a Sarah. I would like to find out just who your Sarah Cleare is in relationship to my Cleare family.

Re: Cleare Family in Bahamas and Key West
Carla, I believe that we have corresponded. I have very little information on my Cleare connection. Here is what I do have. Sarah Elizabeth Cleare bn 19 April 1835, St John's Spanish, Harbour Island. She married Benjamin Carey (1830-1863). They married 29 July 1852. In 1870 Key West Census she is the head of the household. Living with her are: Benjamin 17 Lorreta 14 (my direct ancestor gggrandmother) James 12 Marth(a) 8 Clair, Sarah 70 Albury, William 21 Do your Cleare's intersect with these? I hope so.
