Hello All:
I'm not addressing any single issue here, but I am ecstatic to have located some people with my surname. I realize there is a variation in the spelling; however, we're probably all related in some way. I am currently living in the United States. I am 23, grew up in Maine, and I've just recently graduated from the University of Maine. If anyone is willing to respond, I am anxious for information on our family. I come from a large family of five children, all much older than myself. My siblings and my father have been trying to gain information on the name for years. We may have an abundance of info. for all of you as well. Will you please respond with your e-mail address, as it does not appear on the website. Thank you all for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. Take care!!

CLeal

Do you have a Daniel or Jacob Cleal from the mid to late 1850's anywhere in your Cleal 'lot'? Daniel and Jacob were brothers and in San Jose, before that Canada, before that South Perrott, England.

None by these names. But I need info on Joseph who left for America in 1794 from Horton, Somersetshire.

Ralph, I do not have any information on Joseph but I can tell you if you have a son that attended school in Lincoln, Nebraska and played softball then we are probably related. I have a little brother who played with a Cleale from back East and I believe that Elizabeth and I have emailed before. At that time believe Elizaeth said that the two boys looked quite a bit alike. Hello,

Do you have any information on Nancy Clapp Cleale, born 1797 in Wrentham, Mass.? She married Joseph Drake c. 1815.

I would be very greatful for any information on her family.

Thanks!

I have never found other Cleales in MA except those in our family. What we know is that Joseph(no middle initial that we know of) arrived in Ipswich, MA, from Horton, Somersetshire, in 1794. Think he was born in 1765. He married Mille(or Milla) Mann and had family, one son Joseph, M. who may have had siblings that we are not aware of.(The timing for Nancy Clapp Cleale is in the right time frame.)
Jos. M. migrated to Sherborn, MA, and established the family farm which stayed in the Cleale family until my folks sold it in about the 1960's.
Wrentham is not far from Sherborn so it seems likely there is a connection that we do not know about especially given the rarity of the name and the even rarer Cleale spelling. If there is anything more you can add, I'd sure like to hear it. We are travelling to the UK in May just to view the geography of the Horton-South Perrott area, but its been maddening not to be able to make the English connection.
