Cleal/Taylers in Australia
I am related to Emma Cleal and her daughter Mary Teresa who married Robert Bell Walker from Lara near Geelong in Victoria. I have researched the Walker family extensively and am wanting to meet or correspond with the relevant Cleal/Taylers.

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
Hi Geoff, My grandmother was a Tatlor, and her husband was a Cleal. Just what exactly are you looking for? I live in Werribee, just up the road from you. My Taylors come from Garstang Lacashire, and arrived in Australia around 1860. From what I can tell there were several brothers that arrived at the same time, they were, Mathew,(g grandfather), John, Robert, Henry Hunt and, William. I know that Henry at least went back to England, John I think is buried in a lonley grave near Bruthren. My Cleal's go back via the Channel Islands then to Beaminster Dorset England.
Cheers Paul Kelly.

I am wondering if Richard Arthur Cleal is mentioned in your family research?

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
Hi Sally, apologies for delay. My Cleal records go back to the 1700s and I cannot find any Richards. I don't know about families from the mid to late 1800s. My Cleals started in Somerset, UK went to Canada then into USA and my immediate lot came to Australia in the mid 1800s. Sad I cannot help you. Geoff

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
Hi Nancy, My Taylors came from Garstang Lancashire and arived in AUs in the mid 1860's there were several brothers, and sistes. Some of teh family returned to England around 1869/70. My great grandfather was Matthew, he had broither John, Robert, and another h\who's name I don't recall right now. He was the one who went to went back to England with his sisters. I believe they took with htem the son of Matthew, john b. Clunes circa 1869. THe childs mother having died probably in child birth. From memory I think her name was Hanna Wrigley. She is burried in Clunes Cemetery. From what I acn work out the taylors came to Australia seeking their fortune in teh gold fields of Bendigo. Fromthere tehy spread out all over Victoria. Brother John I bel;ieve is burried ina lonely bush grave in Gipsland, near Bruthren. I did track some others to Dunoly but the trail went cold. Robert is a complete mystery. I did find a Robert Paterson Taylor tha died in St Kilda around 1888. I believe he had ten or so children. But where they went I do not know. When we get closer to the present day it gets harder to locate people, and you have to rely on coincidence, in other words you need ot find some one living in that branch that is also looking for their roots, and perhaps you may make a connection. As to the spelling I dont put a lot of stock in that as most people wer barely literate in teh 1800'as an dnames were often misplet. Whee my Kelly's arrived in Tassy in 1850 the name was spelt Kelley. andone record it is spelt Kilby. Cheers and good luck I live in Wyndhamvale if you know Werribee at all. :-)

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
Hi Sall, I know this a has a been along time comming, but I have been focusing on my Kelly/Kelley's. Richrd Arthur does sound familiar. My first I am comfortable with is Amos cleal from South Perott as being in my direct line(well, to my mohter who is a Cleal). There are earlier Cleals from around 1510 in South Perott, but there is a big gap from about 1530 throught to the mid 1600's. My Great great grandfather Cleal was born in South Perrot, he moved to the Channel island of Guernsey in 1849. He had at least one brother Henry that moved to America.
Cheers PK

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
I have searched my family papers and will need to visit the genealogy library in Perth to research more. My great- grandfather, Arthur Richard Cleal is difficult to find in records. He married Rose Jolley. My grandfather was unaware if there were any siblings.
