Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
Hi Sally, I'll keep my eye out My Cleal's(My Mother's) go back to 1510 in South Perott. Although there is a gap of about 100 years till when Amos Cleal was born in South Perott. Where abouts was Arthur born? Sommerset, Dorset? The question of siblings may turn out to be mute. I always thought my grandfather was one of two maybe three. He was one of eight. When searching for my GG Grandfather Thomas Cleal(b.1825) I had a lot of trouble finding his parents. It wasn't till my cousin sent me a copy of the death certificate that we found his fathers name was Joseph. I trawled the internet looking at Census papers, until I found a Joseph living in Beaminster in 1841. With a lot of help from Zoe the OPC. We were able to get the Census re-transcribed and found not only Thomas' father but all his siblings and his parents. Cheers PK

Hi PK., I see your GG Grandfather was Thomas Cleal(b.1825). I have just learnt that my GG Grandfather was also Thomas Cleal(b.1825), son of Joseph. My G Grandfather was Herbert William Cleal, eldest son of Thomas, one of 11(?) children. I learnt this from Stan, whose grandfather, Giles, was a younger brother of H.W.My grandmother, Florence May Cleal, married Charles le Page and they came to Australia (Sydney)from Guernsey, with their only child, Iris (my mother) in 1909. It would be great if we could compare family trees. We always thought that Mum had no other reltives in Australia

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
I know a Rosalind Sinclair Tayler who grew up in Belmont, Geelong, now married and living at Ceres. She has asked me to look into her family history. I have located John Sinclair Tayler, dentist. Any connections.

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
I am not sure why I asked that. My contact's trail led back to Ireland. Despite being in the same general area, they are entirely distinct from the line that married into the Cleals. I didn't think that "Tayler" was an Irish spelling. My contact thought that they originated in Scotland.
I found a Tayler born in Corop, Victoria. He doesn't seem to be one of mine. The number of false identifications on the mother's side has made me very cautious.
Doug.

Re: Cleal/Taylers in Australia
For the benefit of Geoff and others:
I am researching the family of Eric Sinclair Tayler who died in Geelong. He is no relation to the Lara Taylers. His ancestors came from Hull, Yorkshire, England. He moved from Melbourne to Geelong. He is no relation to me; his daughter is a family friend.
