Jacob, the origin of the name Clabough is believed to be of German origin, originating from the name Klabach. I have investigated this name and received a good deal of information from a Clabough living in Maryville, Tennessee who sent me several pages on the Clabough family and its' origin. My birth mother is a Clabough from Knoxville and I have seven aunts and uncles all of which are living except for three uncles and all are living around the Knoxville, New Market, and Strawberry Plains area. Do you know any of the names of your relatives? And you couldn't be ten years old and serving in the military! Not meaning to embarrass you! I will email you with a site to investigate the name your self. I contacted two places that do family crests and the spelling Clabaugh which is another form of Clabough is German but the spelling Clabough is I was told French. Hope this helps.

From my research, the Claboughs came from Germany and settled in Maryland. Sometime during the 1800's, John Clabaugh Jr. and his wife settled in Sevier County, Tennessee.
