I have relatives who spell their name Claburn
Oue name probably has been spelled with any combination of e,i and u possible. Most who migrated here could not write and were at the mercy of whom-ever thought it should be spelled and so today we come under many names
My Daddy told me his great-great-great-grand
father moved from northern France to England
and then to the USA.Died and left a son-Nathan Britt to be raised by Indians. He M
married Mahala Allen- probably an Indian and moved to Alabama in 1856.Be glad to hear from anyone at claborn6@home.com

I agree as I am distantly related to the same line of Claburns. The name varies from Claburn, Claiborne, Claborn, Cliburn, Clayborn(e), and probably some other vatiations. The first major change came when Nathan Britt spelled his name Claburn. His son married my Greatgreat aunt, Josephine Collins.

I do see where a son of Nathan Britt named Nathan married a Collins and had boys named: Coon, Wes and Matt and girls named: Carol or Carrol and one names Voleney. Now where do you fit in and how do you know Nathan Britt changed his name and changed it from what?

I hope that I did not suggest that Nathan Britt Claburn changed his name. There is evidence that the name was spelled differently at different times by vaious people. I fit in like this; Nathan Britt Claburn married Frances Josephine Collins. According to some the ceremony was performed by one Christopher Columbus Collins (her brother and a Baptist minister). This CC Collins is my greatgrandfather. So, I am a "distant" relative of the Claburns(Cliburn, Claiborn(e), Claborn, etc.) I came onto most of this information through research done by decendants of this union who are searching the Claburn line. If you go to the Claburn surname on the Genforum web board, you will see approxinately 100 messages since Jan. 2000, dealing with these Claburns and their offspring. There is too much information for me to try to condense here. There is no question that there a large number of people descended from this line of Claburns. Additionally, as a youth I knew of both Claburns and Cliburns in Texas who were apparently descendants form this family line. I have not been able to make the specific connections yet.

I was really searching for Nathan Britt Claborn who married a Mahala Allen and who were the parents of your Nathan that married a Collins.I seem stumped without going to other spellings such as Cliborn or Clyburn who seem to settle in S.C> but I don't know that for sure -Yet.If you know of anything on Nathan Britt or any other spelling I am interested and thanks, Ray Claborn

I know that I have seen a reference in a posting about this but I cannot find it at the moment. The gist of it is that the name was probably French and spelled Claiborne. The speculation was that the family had come to America by way of England. There was an "Cherokee Indian connection" also. I'll post you if I find it.
