The spelling (Claborn) is unusual and my greatgrandfather, Jasper Claborn (b.1871 ARK)said he and his brothers Benjamin (b.1862) and John (b.1874) decided to simplify the spelling from Claibourn. Their father Richard P. Claibourn, age 52, was listed as head-of-household, Sugarloaf Township, Sebastion County, ARK 1880 census. Jasper said anyone spelling the name 'Claborn' was likely related. I believe decendents of Benjamin and John settled in Oregon or Washington. Jasper's son, Howard is buried in Riddle, Oregon. He had no children. Jasper's daughter, Clara Elizabeth Thomas (8/7/94-2/8/75) had 5 children. She is buried in Quinton, OK

I'm looking for a family that the name Jasper might have come from. Do you know the generation prior to your great grandfather, and do you know if they were in the Amer. Rev. War? I've got tons of info if there's a connection.

Jasper Lafayette Claborn was born, 5/19/1871, to Robert P. Claborn, born 1828, (1880 ARK census mistakenly documented him as Richard P). Robert and several of his brothers (James E., Alfred L., Benjamin F., and William C.) came to Sebastian Co.,ARK from Weakley Co.,TN in 1860s.
Their parents were Alfred Catherine Clayborne/Claiborne. Alfred was born in 1805 and died in 1858, both in Weakley Co. Catherine was born in 1809 in Weakley Co and died in Sebastian Co. I have not been able to find any record of Robert's first wife who he married in TN. His second wife, who he married in ARK, was Nancy Harvey Hulsey. I would appreciate any information regarding Alfred and Catherine or their ancesters. I have been unable to find any other information in TN and am at a deadend so far.

This is in reply to Tonja's message on the Claborn family who moved from Weakly County Tennessee to Sebastion County, Arkansas. Benjamin B. Claborn (not Benjamin F.) is my GGrandfather. He married Lucinda Samantha Smoot in Sebastion County and later moved to Indian Territory, Oklahoma, near Mcalister where he died in 1897. My GGrandmother, Lucinda, lived in that area until she passed away in 1948 at the age of 102. I have been to the Shiloh cemetary in Sebastion County and many of the ancestors that you mention are buried there. This cemetary apparently started as the Claborn family cemetary as most of the names are Claborn or families related to us. Information I have is that my GGGrandmother Catherine is buried there but I was unable to find her grave. I would be glad to share what information I have on the Claborn family with anyone who is interested. Contact me at jcgunny@aol.com.

I am looking for information on Arizona (Claborn) Grady. She is my husbands great-grandmother. Born around 1889, died 1936. Married Emmanuel Grady, they lived in Oklahoma. Grady relatives said that they thought she was from Arkansas. They didn't know anything about her really (spoke with the wife of one of Arozona's sons who had been dead for some time). I would like to trace a family tree back as far as possible for our children, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Do you know anything about the spelling change because of some shoot-out? Or family feud or anything like that?

Clayborn. But have never gotten the reason what it was over. That was what I've always been told.
