My dad was descended from Nathan Claborn who migrated to AL from SC in 1850. The story in our family was that originally the name was Claiborne, but one mean ancestor was accused of bewitching neighbors' cattle and the family changed the spelling to dissociate from him. One of my dad's cousins has info on Al Claburns but no info on SC ancesctors.
