I am researching the name Clazey and its many, many, many spellings...including Claisse, Claise, Classe, Clasey, etc. We think the family many have been originally French or possibly Spanish... Sharon

I have recently found out that my great great grandmother (Aline Fitzgerald) married a Benjamin Armand Charles Albert Classe on 21st June 1882.They were married at a church called the Notre dame de France which is in the district of Westminster. His father was a slater named Joseph Classe.I hope tthat this may be of use to you. If you are familiar with either Benjamin or Joseph I would be interested on any info you may have regarding where they originated. Carl.

I have not found a Benjamin or Joseph....yet. I suspect the family was originally French....the first record we have found in Scotland is for a George Claise....however, the spelling Clazey seems to originate in the late 1700s as well so I do not know if my line is from the Claise. In one family, all family members in one burial plot spelled the name differently from one another.... I will keep looking!!
