I lived in Paso Robles from June 1960 to September 1964. My late dad, Jack Kendall, was a master saddlemaker. When we lived in Paso Robles, he worked for The Roundup, the local western shop, which was about 2 blocks from the bridge on 13th St. When we first moved there, Carl Taylor owned it, but by September 1960 he has sold out to Howard Clausen or Classen. He and his wife, Shirley, owned a nice house east of Paso Robles. I remember there were a couple of times that my parents and I drove out to their house, but I had to stay in the car. My dad and I went dove hunting on Howard's property, but Howard was not the kind of person to socialize with the hired help. He died in the summer of 1964 as a result of a firearms accident. I am not sure, but I believe he was related to the family that owend the Mercantile.
