One of my searches, seemed to point to Claassen in California/Washington. I am looking for an Annalee Ruth Claassen, born probably in the 1920's.

Hi,
I realize that this is an old post, but my grandfather was Adolph Claassen. He went to idaho after marrying my grandmother, from Paso Robles, mary jane kiler (see kiler canyon) Adolph had 8 children, one of them was my mother. My mothers only surviving brother Harry, who lived in Grants Pass Oregon, died about 15 years ago, and he had at least one son. His wife Linda is still living. My mother said that when she was small they used to sleep upstairs in the store in Paso. The family considered themselves to be German because they were from Prussia, which is now (post world war 2) split between germany and poland. Beth Griffin

Oscar's brother, Gus Claassen, was my grandfather. Gus lived in Selma (not Salinas) just outside of Fresno. He was a pharmacist/proprietor of Selma Drug in Selma, and used to visit his relatives in Paso Robles, where the Mercantile was the Claassen family business down there. I've got six brothers and two sisters, and except for my brother Richard who is a Carmelite priest, we all have at least two children, so we've multiplied. Sorry for the late reply. Dan Claassen

I lived in Paso Robles from June 1960 to September 1964. My late dad, Jack Kendall, was a master saddlemaker. When we lived in Paso Robles, he worked for The Roundup, the local western shop, which was about 2 blocks from the bridge on 13th St. When we first moved there, Carl Taylor owned it, but by September 1960 he has sold out to Howard Clausen or Classen. He and his wife, Shirley, owned a nice house east of Paso Robles. I remember there were a couple of times that my parents and I drove out to their house, but I had to stay in the car. My dad and I went dove hunting on Howard's property, but Howard was not the kind of person to socialize with the hired help. He died in the summer of 1964 as a result of a firearms accident. I am not sure, but I believe he was related to the family that owend the Mercantile.
