Ciufo & Bottalagine

Well here it is. I had hoped that all the Ciufo's would healp each other out on this board.

My Great grand fathers on my fathers side are Salvatore Ciufo and Pietro Bottalagine. Both apparantly were from Tufo di Minturno, however I can find no records as of yet to indicate what part of Italy the Bottalagine name originated. So I am looking to see if anyone can help me out with any of this. Does anyone know how the "Ciufo" name originated as I see very different spelling of the word as in Ciuffo, Ciuffa, Cuifo. I am assuming that since everyone was rather illiterate in the 1400's that perhaps they started to spell it wrong.

"Cenni storici di Tufo Casale di Traetto (Minturno)" is a book about Tufo di Minturno which gives some historical insight to the villiage of Tufo from the 1400's to 1900's. If you want more info mail me and I'll get you in touch with someone who has translated it to the English version.

I am also looking for photo's and I have lots of them and I have no idea who's in them. I would like to share them to see if you have any clue as to who may be in it. Also I would like more documentation on records and stuff. (ie. birth and death lists, things where someone has paid to get them but we all can share from it. One other thing, any information of the town, historical information, etc...preferably translated in English. Unfortunately although I am part Italien, I'm very bad at the language and an even worse reader.

Lastly, my email address is ciufo@eudoramail.com. Feel free to email me or post a message on this board so all of us Ciufo's could gather and share our knowledge.

Hope to hear from everyone soon.

I really still am lost with this name, all I know is that my great grandfather was Bottalagine and he lived in italy. He only, as far as I can tell had daughters. But I'm not sure on this, one of his daughters lived in England and died about 3 years ago (not sure if it was longer). I also know that he was in the Boer War and may have had a sibling there with an african woman, but this was only a story my grandfather told me so I'm not sure about that yet.

If you find any news on that line, please let me know we may somehow be related as the name seems to not exist.
