Citrin in Poland?

I don't know if there is any connection, but I am also searching for a Citrin family in Poland, I think in the same region (that part that borders Russia and Lithuania). My grandfather was Jakob Citrin, and he left Polish Russia in the first years of the 20th century, approx. 1903-05. He married his cousin, from the same village, Freda (aka Fannie), whose last name may have been Goldman. Same old story, Ellis Island officials changed his last name because they couldn't understand him. I also have relatives in Israel, but I'm not sure who!! :)

My grandparents originally settled in Phila., PA, but moved to Boston before 1926.

Marla

Shaul:

I am learning, through JewishGen.org, that the spelling of most names in Poland was quite fluid, depending upon the village, the nuclear family, even depending upon the person who kept the village records. It is entirely possible that my grandfather's Citrin is still, in some way, related to your parents Cytryn! Since my grandfather passed away here in the US, I will be writing to the Social Security Admin for his original application, which should contain his parents names and his birth place! In about 3-6 months, I may hear something :) Time moves slowly in genealogy, I guess!!

Regards,

Marla

Shaul:

Thanks for your update. As it turns out, I have since last year determined that my paternal grandfather came from Olyka, Volynia, now Ukraine. Sounds like there's probably no relationship, judging by the distance between our two communities.

Regards,

Marla
