Candy:

For as much as I can determine, I don't think that I'm related to your niece. The only remaining question I have is of Mike Citera. I have a cousin, Mike Citera, who lives in Florida. I believe he's alive and would be in his 80's. Mike's father drove a streetcar in Brooklyn. Not sure when he died but I'd guess it was in the 1930's.

I had hoped that your niece is related to my Uncle Dan Citera. However, he was born in 1900 and died in 1976. In addition, his first name was Sabino with middle name of Daniel. Close, but I don't think there is a connection.

As I mentioned before, many of the people from Sanza, who came to America, settled in Williamsburg. Citera's, Curcio's are common names. I visited Sanza about 5 years ago.

If your niece wants more information about Sanza, Williamsburg or anything, please have her e-mail me. I live in Wantagh, NY.

I just thought of something. There were Citera's in Williamsburg who owned a carpet store or a roofing company. If this is any connection for your niece here, I could try to get information about them.

This thread has been going on for some time. I don't know when you'll see it but if I may...
I was born John Arthur Citera to John Anthony Citera. My dad had two brothers Joseph and Daniel and two sisters, Bertha and Sadie. I don't know their parents (My Citera grandparents')names but I hope to find that out this weekend when I speak to Uncle Danny's wife, my aunt Florence.

I don't remember any "Sabino" in the family but I must assume we are related somehow. My father's family was from Greenpoint and my grandparents did hail from Sanza. Also, Citera is not a very common name.

I have no children nor does my brother, Jeffrey. When my father passed away in '79, we were somewhat ostracized from the Citera family. Of the five siblings from Greenpoint, only Joseph had grandchildren that bear the Citera name. As I said, we have no contact with them. Sad story in a way.

If you do contact me or if I do post on this board again, I'll have more information plus some family story about why I knew about Sanza.
