Are there any Citera's who relocated to Florida who lived (or their parents/grandparents) at one time in Brooklyn, NY (more specifically in Williamsburg or Greenpoint)? Really would like to get in touch with relatives.

Hi Tom:

Saw your recent message. Thanks for responding. Although I found a Mike Citera who is now living in Florida, I may have other relatives as well. My grandfather, Sabino Citera, was born in Sanza, Italy in 1865 and migrated to Brooklyn on or about 1892. He had a brother, Michele, but I don't know if there were other sibblings. Michele had a son named Frank and he had a son named Michael (he's the one living in Florida). Sabino's mother's name was Maria and his father's name was Pasquale. I had an Uncle Dan aka Donato who married a woman named Antoinette. Both are sinced deceased. I return to Williamsburg several times a year but always for the Feast of Our Lady of the Snows on August 5th. I've visited sanza, Italy, too.

Uncertain if we are related but look forward to hearing from you. You can e-mail me at Pesnia@CS.Com.

Hello, I am from Suffolk Co NY & I read your email from a 2002 message on ancestry.com about Sabino Citera, and I am hoping you might be a cousin.

I am doing some family research for my husband's nephew's wife and am searching for her grandparents Sabino Citera b 1898 & Mary Curcio (bd unknown), and also her great grandparents Antonio Citera & Antonia Antonucci (neither bd is known).

Her father was Anthony Michael Citera b 1923.

I found a 1910 census record in Brooklyn NY for Sabino Citera b 1865 & Teresa Sabino b 1866 with their 8 kids. One son was named Antonio b 1898, same birthyear as my niece's grandfather Sabino. I thought Antonio might be her grandfather, if Sabino was her father's middle name and Antonio was her grandfather Sabino's middle name. Those names can be tricky in the census.

Do you know if your Sabino was middle named Antonio?

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Candy:

Citera is my mother's maiden name. The Sabino and Teresa in the 1910 census are my grandparents. Antonio, their son and born in 1898, was my uncle. He was raised in Brooklyn and died in 1951. He had one son, Sabino and two daughters (one named Theresa). The surnames, Citera and Curcio, are common names in the town of Sanza, Italy where most Citeras' and Curcios' lived. There are many today living in Sanza and some remaining in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) where they migrated starting in the early 1890's.

I don't believe the people listed in your on the Citera message board are related to me. However, Anthony Michael Citera, born 1923, interests me. Is he alive? Was he raised in Brooklyn?

My niece's family does come from Williamsburg in Brooklyn and originally from Sanza. Her grandfather's parents were not born in the US, but came from Italy (Antonia Antonucci and Antonio Citera). One branch of the family came to the US and one branch (her great grandfather's brother) went to South America.

Her grandfather, Sabino Daniel Citera, was born in 1898 and as far as she knows, his siblings were Charlie (Pasquale) who was born in Italy, Philomena, her father Anthony Micheal (born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 7/21/1923 and died in Florida March 2003), Mary, Anna, Michael & Rose (the baby).

Her grandmother was Mary Nancy Curcio (b. U.S. 3/25/1901?) - Mary's parents were Antonio Curcio and Irene (Ciuffo) Curcio (both born in Italy).

She is pretty sure that the connection has to go back to Italy to find how she is related to you. Her brother and her cousin (Toni Citera - her uncle Michael's daughter) live in Florida at the present time.

Hope this tells you something. It would be nice to find some connection.

i just started my family tree and found my gr grandmothers name is Maria Citera from Sanza who married Giovanni Zambrotta from Sanza. They lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I know my grndmother Gelsomina or Josephine (her daughter) used her mothers maiden name when she came over. I know my gr grandmother Maria Citera had relatives that lived across the street from my mother when she was a child. I'm trying to find out their names. My gr aunt (on the Zambrotta side) is still alive and hopefully she'll remember something.

Saw your post on Ancestry.com I just started researching my family tree and found my gr grandmothers name is Maria Citera from Sanza. She married Giovanni Zambrotta in Sanza he came over in 1898 and she and their 2 girls (on being my grandmother Gelsomina) and Caterina came over in 1899. They lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I think Maria died in 1937. It was given to me on the Italian genealogy site . Any info that you may have that might help me would be greatly appreciated. I don't have much info on this side of my mothers family. yet. But maybe we're related

Looking forward to hearing from you

Wow

Intersting. I'm Tom and 43 yrs old. My grandmother was from Sanza and her name was Maria Fico before marrying Domenico Citera. The Citeras moved to Williamsburg Brooklyn and had 10 children. My father Frank is the youngest of 10. There are 7 surviving Aunts and Uncles. Grandma, Maria Citera's sister was Caterina who married Pelligrino. We are a large family and it definitely sounds like we are related. Too many parallels. We're a great family and everyone gets along and we're all a little crazy and alot of fun. Most everyone is in Florida, my surviving Aunts and Uncles and many of my first cousins. There are 24 first cousins. We'll all be out there for the holidays near Boca. Hope to hear from you before then.

Hi Tom,
After reading your post Could it be that my gr grandmother Maria Citera is your grandfather Domenicos Aunt? I tell you what I know about the family. Maria Citera married Giovanni Zambrotta in Sanza. Giovanni came here first 1898 and then Maria came over 1899 with their 2 daughters Caterina and Gelsomina. They had 8 chilsren:Caterina Gelsomina, Rosa, Dominico, Nicholis, Gaetano(Sam), Frank & Dunato. According to the Census In 1910 they lived on Withers St. in 1920 they bought a house and lived on Manhattan Ave in Brooklyn. My grandmother Gelsomina married Salvatore Mistretta. had 4 children Maria(Mary) Giovanni(John), Antonio(Anthony) and Camella(Emily). all still living. My grandfather Salvatore died in 1932-33.
Maybe this may sound familiar to one of your relatives. We also live in Florida also. My parents and brother and family live in Plam Harbor we live in Tarpon Springs. 4 miles from them. Looking foward to hearing from you
