Hello Rita: There are scores and scores of Cioffis still in Rutland. Some spell it Cioffi and some spell it Chioffi. Some of the Chioffis married Cioffis, so most of them are related by marriage or blood or both. Most of them came from Cervinara or elsewhere in Avellino. There are still a number of Garofano families there also, although far fewer than Cioffis.

Best,
Tony Marro

I happened to be reading your message. My wife's grand parents and great garndparents come through Rutland, VT. before settling in Troy, NY. As the story goes; Antonio Cioffi and his wife Luiga(Muscatello) immigrated from Cervinara in the late 19ty century. Antonio, left his wife for Pennsylvania( maybe the Bedford area), never to be heard from again. Her son Carmine and she left to return to Italy when he was 15, probably 1907. They stayed for several years. Carmine was drafted or enlisted in the Italian Calvary and served eight years. He married Bernadette Marro and in 1926 came back to the USA with two children and settled in Troy. The oldest girl, Adelina Cioffi is my wife's mother. She married my father in law Emiddio Manella in 1946. What a story…..
Update- The town in PA is more likely, Bradford.
