Hello Jeane,
I don't know if we are related in any way, but just wanted to respond to your email. My father, Alberto Cioffi, was from Messina, Sicily. His father, my grandfather, was from Naples (whether Naples exactly or the surrounding area I'm not sure). His name was Gennaro Cioffi. I do not know how many siblings Gennaro had or whether he had a brother named Antonio. I'm told that Gennaro was fair-haired and blue-eyed. He moved to Messina, Sicily with his wife Teresa Testa, who was from the island of Lipari. They had eleven children there. My father, Alberto, immigrated to Caracas, Venezuela with three of his brothers almost fifty years ago. I was born in Caracas. My mother is American.
This information may have no relevance to your family, but I thought I'd throw it your way. Did your grandfather immigrate to South Africa or your father? Do you know anything more about your family? Is there any connection to Messina, Sicily? Apparently, Cioffi is quite a common name in the Naples area.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Carla Cioffi

Hi Jerry,

I'm most happy to receive your message.
Unfortunately I do not know where he was born in Italy, which is my big problem...
I believe he came from the south of Italy though, only because around the end of 1800's most of the italians came from there.
Everytime my parents contact any relatives they say he came from a different place.
Napoli, Calabria and the last time Salerno?
I'm from Brazil (Maringá - Paraná), somewhere southwest from São Paulo.
At the moment I live in Japan.
I don't know wether any of this is of any help, but do not hesitate to contact me again.
Yours sincerely,
Marlei
