Re: Descendants of John CINA
I knew a John Cina who's family was originally from Austria-Hungry. He lived in Cleveland Ohio and died there and had 5 children. They were related to the Gina (Ginnas) family. IS there a possible connection?

Re: Descendants of John CINA
The variation in the spelling is very posssible since I am having much trouble locating any ancestors from this line.
I am not sure if this family is from Hugary since I don't have much info to say one way or the other.
Around what year would you be referring to? Did his family come through New York?

Re: Descendants of John CINA
Another possibility is that it truly was shortened to Gina from a longer name and then changed to Cina. Another person writes (on the Gina Board), his ancestors were from Greece originally and were named GIMOURGINA, and then shortened to GINAS.
It seems very possible that the Cina surname originally was Gina and was later something from something longer before it was shortened to Gina. However, I doubt very much this was the same family I am related to since I was told that the Cina family I am referring to was from Italy some place.

Re: Descendants of John CINA
I don't know the port of entry, just that it was the east coast. John Cina had 4 children and they were raised in Cleveland. He was married to Julia and he died 2/20/1954. Julia died shortly before him. Both are buried in Cleveland. John's parents were Mary and Joseph Cina who died 1/18/1925. John Cina was the uncle of James Gina who was my father. You should look for the Hungarian/Romanian spelling which might be Czyna, or Cinna, Cinnas. My father's name was spelled Ginas/Ginnas originally. All the men were musicians. Hope this helps some. Pottsville Pa., New York and Cleveland were where most of them initially lived.

Re: Descendants of John CINA
Yes, his family's port of entry was NY. He was a tailor by trade. The spelling was also Cinna & Czyna as used by other family members. He lived in Cleveland at time of death and was married to Julia. Both buried in Calvery cemetery, Cleve. Ohio.
