I am interested in locating anyone from the Cihal family. My father was Edwin Cihal and his father who was the only child of Henry Cihal. My great-grandfather was Frank Cihal, Sr. who was born August 27, 1864 and died October 3, 1897. Frank Cihal died in LaGrange, Texas following a train accident and left a widow with four young sons, Frank, Jr., Emil, August and Henry. He was instrumental in organizing the SPJST and was the first member whose family was paid death benefits. Frank Cihal was born in Hranice, Moravia and came to America in 1885. Henry Cihal had many business interests---farming, owned and operated a grocery and a cotton gin in Markham, Texas. My father, Edwin, made work in the oilfield his life's work after returning from World War II. He was born Sept. 25, 1921 and died Sept. 21, 1987. I would like to learn more about my extended family heritage. I will watch the message board and my personal e-mail with hopes of hearing from you.

Your grandfather was my real grandfather. My dad was Charles Cihal and my brother's name is Charles Cihal III. I lived in Trumbull,Ct most of my life. Either your mom or dad was my dad's 1/2 sister brother or 1/2 cousin which ever you choose. You see Our Grandfather was married to sister's Imhoff family. I can tell you many things about our family. Aunts Uncles cousins and grandchildern. I have 3 brother's who each have childern. Yes you are right about the Cihal name. It was shortened when our great grandfather John Cihal came from Chez. They said the name was to long. We have 2 Aunts still living from our Great grandfather John. Why don't you e-mail me and I will try to answer some of your Questions. I also have a picture of our Great Grandparents too. You would have loved to known Grandpa John. He was a wonderful man. Our Grandmother died on Nov 2 1961 I was about a month old so I don't remeber her. Till I hear from you.

Hi, I know you posted this message in 1999 but i have just started to become interested in my family tree, my mothers maiden name is Cihal and her father also came from czech too, is it just a popular czech name?

My father, Joseph Albert Chihal, was born in Crete NE to Albert Joseph and Anna Chihal in 1925. The name Cihal means master hunter in Czechoslovakia. There seem to be a lot of Cihals in the Nebraska area and across the country. There are fewer that spell the name Chihal as my family does. I am looking for information on any other children of Albert Joseph Chihal. He was born 1/20/1894 in Wilber NE and moved to Grand Island some time around the late 1930's.

My maiden name is Cihal. I am the daughter of Beverly (Haller) and Vincent Cihal. My grandparents were Philomena (Grace, Acanfora) and Charles Cihal. My great-grandparents were Lillian (Imhoff) and Charles John Cihal. My great-great grandparents were Pualine (K?) and John Cihal. They immigrated to the U.S. from Nitra, Nitriansky, Slovakia (Austria at the time they immigrated).
My family mainly lived in the New York, Connecticut area. I was told our name (Czech in origin) had been shortened, but I cannot find from what or when. If you have any other information, please let me know! Maybe we are related!
