I am interested in exchanging information with anyone researching the CIHAK surname.

My grandfather was Frank Cihak, born in the 1870's, in Bohemia. He immigrated to the US and settled on a farm near East Jordan Michigan. He married Mary Benda. He had a sister, Josephine, who lived in Chicago and at least one brother, Louis who lived in Buffalo, New York. Please send an e-mail to ddfjohnson@aol.com.

I found a Josephine Cihak and two Louis Cihaks in the Social Security Death Index at ANCESTRY.COM:

Josephine Cihak, b. 1/25/1890, d. Apr 1972, SSN issued in Illinois before 1951. Last Residence 49727 East Jordon, Charlevoix, Michigan.

Louis Cihak, b. 1/3/1882, d. Jan 1956, SSN issued in Illinois before 1951.

Louis Cihak, b. 2/20/1889, d. Sep 1964, SSN issued in NY before 1951.

There are 195 Cihaks listed in the Social Secuirty Death Index. I have found that a SS5, Application for Social Security Number can be very helpful in researching ancestors.

Wagner and Dante, South Dakota are full of Cihaks.
Several relatives are researching the local branch.
If you're interested, I can give you their e-mail address.
My grandmother was a Cihak. Her father was Frank Cihak.

Sincerely,
Jim N.

Hi Jim,

Not sure if there is any connection between Cihak families, but my ancestors from MN were Johannes Cihak who married Rose Tupa. He had a sister, Barbara, I believe.

Do you what part of Czech your family came from, or when they arrived in America? I seem to have come to a dead end.

Would be happy to share any info I have.

Good luck in your search.

Barbara
