I am trying to track down the origins of Terezia Ciganek who immigrated from Hungry in 1906. She was the daughter of Paul Ciganek and Mary Raab.

She lived in the town of Laksarujfalu (now Laksarka nova Ves) in present day Slovakia (then Hungry).

Any information appreciated.

Your Ciganek message is interesting to me because my grandfather was from Laksarka Nova Ves also Hungarian. He immigrated around 1900 his surname was Sisolak/Sesulak or Sisulak and his sister or sister in law's name was Ciganek there are several family members living in and around Milwaukee, Wisc. Ciganek is the Hungarian word for gypsy.
sincerely, Judy Sisolak

Judy -

This sounds interesting. In our research we have found three Terezia Ciganek who immigrated to the US. We believe ours had a brother Paul - gleamed from the passenger list. She lived in New York City, but there are family stories about her driving out to Pennsylvania to meet family.

Her parents were Paul Ciganek and Mary Raab.

Is this similar to any information you have?

Thanks
Jesse

I checked my records. I recently found an obit for Louis P. Drinka (2002), his late parents were listed as Paul Drinka and Mary (nee Ciganek) and a sibling named Theresa. Maybe Theresa was named for Terezia. Sorry that's as close as I can get. But we do have Laksarka Nova Ves in common.
good luck.

I have heard my grandfather Victor Sisolak was from the same village. He came here with his brother Steven in the early 1900s. They immigrated to NJ.
