In the case someone still follows this thread:
My name is Antonio Schiavone, for personal interest I collect data on people (and their descendants) emigrated from Montaguto to USA. Perhaps I can add some information and in the meantime ask for help!
1. I have a John (Giovanni) Cifaldi from Montaguto (Province of Avellino) arrived in New York 1 May 1912 on SS San Guglielmo (Gary, IN was his final destination). He married Jennie Ippolito from Bovino (Province of Foggia) (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VNT6-2F1). The two villages lie on the top of nearby mountains.
2. I suppose that (Vincenzo) James Ippolito (1894-1971, Jennie’s brother?) married Maria Palma Cifaldi (John’s sister?). After Maria Palma death he remarried to Maria Concetta Cifaldi (Maria Palma’s sister). From the second marriage Palmina was born.
A friend of mine (Tonino, Maria Concetta’s grandson from her first marriage in Italy) would like to find a way to get in touch with her, the families lost contact in early seventies. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Since I have more than 5000 names in my collection, I’d be pleased to help persons interested in emigrates from Montaguto to USA.

My great grandparents are from Montaguto (domenico cifaldi and maria luigia marinacci) They immigrated to connecticut btween 1905 and 1920. Im looking for other cifaldis who came with domenico in 1905 and their families. Nicola, Rocco and donato all cifaldi but they seem to have gone to ohio and pennsylvania. Do you have any current contacts for others connected to montaguto? Also, my great aunt had a small paperback book about Montaguto history, all in italian. I had a copy of it and cannot find it. Does this sound familiar?

Thanks

Domenico Cifaldi arrived in New York 12 April 1905 on SS Manuel Calvo. Other Cifaldi on the same ship were: Antonio, Donato, Nicola and Rocco. With the exception of Domenico, all of them returned to Montaguto and lived there. I suspect the book you mention is “il mio paese natio” written by Francesco Paolo della Rovere or “Montaguto nella storia” by Father Enrico Menga.

Yes, the "Montaguto Nella Storia" sounds familiar. Are there any copies of this available that you know of? And I recently found that Domenico, Rocco and Nicola all went back and forth between Montaguto and the US several times.... Nicola went to Gary Indiana in 1913. Could he be the connection between the group from Gary that you posted about earlier?

And do you have information about death records of residents of Montaguto? I've not had any luck searching for death records for any of these men, other than my own great grandfather, Dominic Cifaldi. I'm trying to figure out if they stayed in the US, or returned to Italy and perhaps died there? Nicola had a wife who stayed in Italy while he came, her name was Maria Luigia Anzivino born in 1858. I'm interested In that family line as well as the Borelli and Marrinacio lines.

Any help with information about which continent they died on would also be great. Thank you,
Suzi

Ancient books on Montaguto history have been reprinted as “Prolegomena Historica Terrae Montis Acuti” in 2010, I don’t think the book can be purchased from bookstores, tray to get more info from www.montaguto.com.
I have death records of residents of Montaguto from 1813 to 1910 and may confirm that Rocco and Nicola Cifaldi are not listed.
Nicola (19 Feb 1874) and Domenico (22 Jan 1882) line: Giuseppe (23 Apr 1848-?) and Maria Luigia Anzivino (8 Jun 1852-?) – Nicola (abt 1806-27 Feb 1889) and Paola Angino (25 Jan1815-20 Jan 1887) – Isidoro (abt 1793-11 jun 1875) and Cristina Pizzella (abt 1782-7 Jun 1852) – Giuseppe (?-?) and Mariangela Macchia (abt 1769-22 Aug 1821).
Please write me at aschi1992@alice.it for more data.

Thank you for your reply. I need to connect each of your names with my ancestors to double check my work! I hadn't seen the names Paola and Nicola Angino, Isidoro and Cristina Pizzella or Giuseppe and Mariangela Macchia before...Can you explain how they are connected to Giuseppe and Maria Luigia Anzivino??? Then I can email you separately.

Do you live in or near Montaguto?? I found the website you recommended, www.montaguto.com but I don't read Italian, so it's tricky! I know some French, and that is helping me understand some of it.
Thank you again for your help. And may I ask, how did you end up with the death records from the city? Is there another place to find the church records with births and marriages? Or is this all they kept?

To trace my ancestors in Montaguto I have red all birth, death and matrimony records (from 1809 to 1910) available at “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/409784?availability=....
Putting together this huge amount of data (still in progress) I'll be able to follow the great majority of families with reasonable accuracy.
I have't direct knowledge but it is possible that older data are kept by the church in Montaguto or by the dicesan archives in Bovino.
In the previous post i meant that Nicola and Domenico Cifaldi were sons of Giuseppe and Maria Luigia Anzivino, Giuseppe son of Nicola and Paola Angino, Nicola son of Isidoro and Cristina Pizzella, Isidoro son of Giuseppe and Mariangela Macchia.
I apologize for a mistake in my email address (2 has to be 9).
