Hi, it is nice to hear of another Ciejka as there are not many of us. I cannot help you directly with Frank and Camille. My husband Paul's grandparents were Stanley and Catherine Ciejka who emigrated to Adams MA from a small town in the Beskyd Mountains east of Zakopane in Poland just prior to the First World War He was the only family member we know of that came to the states.. My husband and I are currently living in the Czech Republic and find that there are a lot of "Cejka"s here, spelled with a small v (hacek) over the "C" to give the "Ch" sound. There is a town in southeast Czech Republic called "Cejkovice" a big wine producing town. I wonder if the Ciejkas were originally from the Czech republic and fled or otherwise moved to the Polish side of the border at the time of the conflicts between the Slavs and the Austro- hungarian Empire and changed the spelling to the Polish spelling as there is no hacek in the Polish alphabet. We plan to visit Cejokovice and maybe find out more. Take care, Jenny Ciejka

Could you tell me where Frank was born? I have different information. I am his grand daughter and have old army records that say Austria and death records that say Poland. Any and all information will be helpful. Camille too. My mom passed away and I have been working on another family line right now. Thanks for responding to the list! Diane

Hi Jenny! I was replying to a message from Jan Ciejka and saw yours from way back in March. Thanks for the information. Frank was my grandfather and his WW1 military records say he was born in Austria and his death certificate said Poland. What you tell me makes sense. My father's family, ZAPKA, is from Czechoslovakia, although both families met in New York triggering marriage between my parents. Thanks for your input.

Diane,

Your info about the death in Poland makes me think twice. What are the chances of two couples named Frank and Camille Ciejka. They must be astronomical. The Couple I know of, lived in California. Frank was born in Poland. Camille was an American. If this sounds somewhat familiar, let me know, so that we can make sure that we're takingabout the same individuals.

Actually, that message might have confused you. I meant that on the death certificate it stated the place of birth was in Poland and the military records place of birth - Austria. He did die in Garden Grove, California as did Camille. They are the same I am sure. Sorry I was confusing. I did meet his brothers Walter and Felix when I was quite young and I remember them too. I did not know any other relatives only through Christmas Cards. Now I am trying to piece it together as my mother has passed away two years ago and my dad is frail with congestive heart failure but still alive in California. Thanks, Diane

Yes there is a direct connection in the
family. The history goes to the first
partition of Poland by Austria / Germany /
Russia. But it comes back to Poland in
the years of 1684. I have that information
