I live in the New York metropolitan area and am trying to locate any and all informationon the Cicalo family history. As I have seen posted, there are not that many Cicalos out there, can anyone give me any insight? Specifically, I am seeking a town in Italy to begin a family search. Can anyone give me a town from which their relatives emigrated? I would be most grateful. Thanks...

Coleen, I hope I am doing this correctly. Let's see. In December, I was e-mailing with an Arthur Cicalo, who I would imagine is somehow related to you. However, I am always hopeful that a little thread of information will lead to a larger piece, so here goes... Giusseppe Cicalo, brother of Paul immigrated to New York. Seemingly, or according to family lore, he came through Ellis Island, where there is a very fuzzy record of a Paolo and Giusseppe having arrived. They lived in Manhattan, Giusseppe dying in 1958, Paul, I am not sure about. I am not clear where they came from, but believe it to be the Chiarmonte area. Are you relations wiht Matteo? Arthur and I corresponded and we were unable to form a link. But maybe, just maybe there is more out there...Write back in any case, I appreciate your contact. Laurie J. Cicalo

I'm working on the Cicalo Family Tree. Matteo Cicala was
my grandfather and Carolina Palazzola was my grandmother.
Matteo's parents were Guiseppe Cicala and Dorothy Miceli.
Carolina's parents were Paulo Palazzola and Josephine Caleca.
I know that Matteo came to the USA about 1903-1905 era from
Castelluzzo Italy.
If anyone has anyone information or can help me in my
family search, I would appreciate it.
Somehow in the USA the name was changed from Cicala to Cicalo.

Fran,
I don't know if this could be the same Josephina Caleca or
not. Joesphina would be my great-grandmother. I know that
my family is from the Provience of Trapani and the town is
Castelluzzo. (That is not a long distance from Palermo)
But I don't believe she ever came to the USA. It could be
a relative, maybe??? Do you know who her parents were?
(The person your referring to?)

A note on your query. My Josepine was my grandfather's niece. In 1920 she was 21. My grandfather's parents were Francesco Caleca and Rosaria Ardizzone. He had two brothers and a sister that there is a record of. there may have been more. One brother also came to U.S. with his family. Any help? It would be nice to find some relatives still in Sicily, to know more about their lives.............Fran <fran25142aol.com>

Andrea: Many thanks for your kindness in replying to my query. May I ask a favor? Could you please give me some information on how you know this to be so? I ask this because my father-in-law's family has been unable to find any other Cicalos in the area that his father is believed to have come from. It has long been believed that the family was from around the Basilicata area, which obviously, could be th where they emigrated at one point. I would appreciate any information you could provide. Thank you quite sincerely...Laurie J. Cicalo
