hi lissa
there are lots of sites that you can go to find out what town in italy your family came from. I;ve had the most success with www.ellisisland.org
you put in your ancestors name and the approx year they came over and it will give you a list of ships. you can search the passenger list to find your relative and it will tell you where they came from. its a great site.

as far as the spelling of the name goes. yes, there are many variations on cicala even within my own family.
my dad spelled it cicola....my uncle spelled it cicalo and yet another uncle spelled it cicala, which is the true spelling from italy.

my family comes from a beautiful mountain village in sicily called collesano. it is in the province of palermo.

let me know how you make out in your search.
Are you a Cicala? If so what are some of the names of your ancestors? Maybe we are somehow related!

hi marie,
The only family i know( personally) are cicala's, but i asked my father about it and he said there are cicale, and cicola, (or how ever you spell it) that live in Italy. and we just don't really know them that well i think the only person that talked to them was my great grandfather and he's not alive anymore so i think when he died we lost all communication with them.
