Hi Ewelina -
My ancestors were from various towns and villages surrounding the city of Lipusz in the part of Poland that was then known as West Prussia.
My great grandfather, Walenty Chwarszczynski, was born February 13, 1862 in Tuszkau and came to the U.S. in 1878. His mother, Marianna Augustina Chwarszczynska, was born March 27, 1834 in Kruszewo. She was not married when Walenty was born, and we do not know who his father was. Augustina (the name she went by) was the daughter of Gottlieb Chwarszczynski (born 1795) and Catharina Reschke. Augustina eventually married August Litterski. They had a daughter, Valentine Litterski, who married Martin Modrzejewski. August Litterski died in 1885, and Augustina then married a Mr. Wolski (I don't know his first name).
Among Gottlieb's siblings was a brother, Christoph. I know that three of Christoph's children came to the U.S.; two settled in Chicago, Illinois and the third settled in southern Illinois. They arrived in the U.S. in the late 1860s and early 1870s.
Do any of my ancestor's names tie in with your family research? I have been in contact with two Chwarszczynski family members, who were descended from Christoph. One, Uve Grau, lives in Denmark; the other, Kazimierz "Kazik" Chwarszczynski, lives in Poland. Unfortunately, I was not able to continue corresponding with Kazik because he did not speak English and I do not speak Polish.
