I am looking for relatives of my paternal grandmother Anna Chwalek who came to the US from Galitcia in Austria-Hungary in the late 1880's or early 1890's...after coming here she married Harry (Gregory )Dechio (also spelled Decho and possibly Decko/ Dacho/Dacko)...she arrived via Philadelphia and worked as a servant until her marriage...she lived all of her married life and until her death in Derby, Connecticut...We believe the ethnic origin to be Ukrainian but some have suggested Chech ... please respond if ther is even the slightest possibility of a connection.

If you are still online contact me at dylansmom@cox.net. I think I know who Anna's siblings were.

My grandmother's name was Teresa Dacko but I am uncertain of the spelling. She came from the village of Parihuzovce in what was then Austria-Hungary, then Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia. The village is in the Snina region of Slovakia. She came to this country around 1903. You might try this site for Slovak research: http://www.centroconsult.sk/genealogy/index.html

I cannot believe it has taken me so long to return to this message board. I certainly will e-mail you. My cousin, Chris Ignatowski, and I have been doing some research.

I believe she had a sister, Mary, who married a Rado and lived in old Forge, Penn. I am also told her father came to the US and went back...I am not certain of the time frame. Also, that he mother had died. She worked in the old country as a servant in the household of the older 1/2 sister of the man she married after coming to the US, Harry Dechio (more than likely Decho...but his birth name was Gabriel Dec' ) . They came from Bartne in south-eastern Poland.
