I am looking for any family history on the CHVAL surname. They are from the Omaha, Nebraska area and came to the USA in the late 1800's to the early 1900's from Bohemia, Austria. They will also be related to the SKALAK and RICAN surnames too.

I'm trying to get in touch with my Grandma, who is a Chval (maiden name). Although, her family went to Chicago and then to NM, but they may be related to your Chval's. As soon as I get any information, I will let you know.

My grandfather Chval lived in Chicago, and various towns in surrounding areas before ultimately moving to Oregon in maybe the 50's. I could check to see about siblings. Can you provide more info on your relatives. Haven't done any research myself, How common of a name was Chval in Bohemia? Any ideas on sources of information?

Hi Doug, according to census list from 1900 Rudolf Chval born 16th Feb 1877 carpenter emigrated befor 1900 to New York with his sister Maria Chval born 8th Feb 1882. Lot of emigrant from same born-area settled down in Omaha, Nebraska. Perhaps they are your ancestors. All the best from Czech. Tony.

Hey Doug, I can trace my dad's ancestry to Bohemia as well. James Chval, form Bohemia, ended up in Omaha, NE. His wife's name was Lizie and she was from Virginia. They had 2 sons, Luther and Richard and 1 daughter, Lucy. Luther, my grandfather, married in Omaha where my dad and aunt were born. Luther moved to Panama City, FL in the 50's and remained there until his death. My dad remained in Omaha and that is where my family lives today. Luther's brother, Richard, moved to Chicago. Uncle Dick as my dad called him, was my dad's favorite uncle. Although I have no memories of meeting them, he and his wife are my God parents. I am trying to find out more information about Richard Chval and his family tree. There are some Chval's that still live in the Chicago area and I trying to find out if any are related to Richard. Please let me know if you have learned any information on your quest.

Thanks,
Tim Chval
