My Joel CHUBB, b. 1 August 1808 in NY; d. abt 1860 in Rockford, Winnebago, IL (can't find a death record or gravestone) m. Sarah (Sally) Ann DYER 18 Nov. 1821 in Geouga, Ohio (she was b. 25 Nov 1808 in NY and d. 30 June 1893 in Baxter Springs, Cherokee, KS)

I am looking for the parents of Joel CHUBB. I believe his grandparents were Alexander CHUBB of Pittsford, Ontario,NY and his wife Mindwell WHEELER. His parents may have been Alexander's son, Harvey and his wife Caroline. The only other Chubb in the 1810 census with a male under age 10, was Gideon CHUBB of Columbia Co. His family doesn't fit as well as Alexander's. (Joel had a son named James Harvey; Sally or Sarah DYER's father was James. Also Alexander had a daugher named Claret and so did Joel. There was also a son named Horace Wheeler (for Mindwell Wheeler?).

no luck "proving" the parents of Joel Chubb. However a cousin did find an article about him being injured in an election celebration. There was a family story that said he died in a Fourth of July celebration. Turns out his hand was partly blown off in lighting a cannon at the election celebration.

I still think Joel is the son of a Harvey Chubb -- maybe the one who was in Michigan?

I have Joel Chubb born August 1, 1808 in Oswego County, NY married November 18, 1832 in Geauga County, Ohio to Sarah Dyer born 1808. Joel died on November 25, 1860 Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois, and Sarah died 1893 Cherokee County, Kansas. They have a son Prosser Joel Chubb born September 3, 1852 in Illinois and he died March 14, 1822. Prosser married Hattie who was born February 18, 1866 and died on October 6, 1920. Prosser and Hattie Chubb are buried at Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas.
I have an enormous amount of Chubb information on the Oswego, NY Chubb family. I have not yet been able to identify this Joel Chubb's parents.

The Joel Chubb you have is mine! He and Sarah also had a son named James Harvey Chubb who was the brother of Prosser (or Prosper) Joel Chubb.

One of the reasons I feel that Joel is related to Alexander Chubb is that Alexander is supposted to have had a son named Harvey. Joel's wife's father's name was James Dyer. Joel's son James Harvey (named after Sarah's husband and Joel's father?) had a son named Joel Anson (Joel for James father and Anson after his wife, Martha Braman's father). But that is the only connection I have to Alexander, except that there is a young boy in the right age range living with the Alexander Chubb family in 1810.

There was another Joel Chubb running around New York and thereabouts at this time but he doesn't "fit" into my family. However, that Joel is related to a Rolla Chubb and my James named one of his sons Rolla. The first Rolla was a Methodist minister curcuit rider (a traveling preacher) in the area of NY, Ohio and thereabouts and I wonder if he preached in the area where my Joel and Sarah lived and so they named their son after this "famous" preacher. Of course, there is always the possibility that I am way off with the Alexander connection and my Joel is actually related to Rolla and the other Joel.

Thanks.

Candance, have you found anything further on Joel Chubb's father? My lineage is from Darius Sylvester Chubb. I believe your Joel, and mine, is Joel H. Chubb from Osewgo New York but I have been unable to find Joel's parents.
