Hi Sue,
I don't have much:
I have an 1866 marriage certificate for a John Chrisman and a Ruth Hobson from Santa Clara County, CA. The marriage certificate does not provide any other information.
They are not listed in the 1870 Santa Clara County, CA Census (or any other census for this county). I am in the process of doing a systematic state wide search on all John Chrismans but have not been able to locate a John and Ruth in any CA Census yet. In general, I think she either died and/or they/he moved on.
From the Santa Clara County Superior Court papers all I know is he is alive as of 3 March 1922, unable to attend the court sesion, objected to certain items in the accounting and settlement of his brothers assets, and being represented by the his attorneys Crittenden and Hench.
I don't know if John couldn't attend because of age, distance, finances, or any combinination of the above.
The court document lists a total of seven siblings, J.H. (Jesse Henry), Josiah, John, Lewis, George, Emeline GOOGE, and Mary Ann MANCIL. The last three are listed as deceased with the document dated 3 February 1920.
Those slim pickings are all I know.
Regarding the women, the surname spelling could be a phonetic spelling or "old" names if the women remarried as it doesn't seem (at least from this end) that the siblings kept in touch very well. I have a hunch that a Emeline (hopefully this one) may have gotten married in either IL. If that is the case, then it seems like she may have gone their with other family members.
