Julien Choquette father of Sophie Choquette

I have hit a brick wall. Julien Choquette is my ggg grandfather, married to Marie Lafond. I found this information on my gg grandmother's birth records. Her name is Sophie Choquette born 1808, this was in the Drouin records along with Sophie's marriage records to Francois Labelle.

But, like I said I can not find anything on Julien or Marie. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bonnie

hello if your related to Nicholas Choquette married to Anne Julien ? then I may have family history for you ....Nicholas and Anne were my 8th greatgrandparents .... I have back to my 10th great grand parents as well as their descendants....

Nicolas came to Quebec as a solider in the Regiment de Carignan in the 1660's to protect colonists from the indians. After his tour of military duty ended , he accepted an offer to stay in New France and settle. He was awarded a land grant of 110 acres on the Ile Sainte Therese in St. Lawerence River at the eastern end of the Island of Montreal; he established the town of Varennes.
"The Regiment had, however not yet all arrived. That protion led by Colonel de Sallieres himself did not come til August 18th or 19th, while the last companies reached New France with de Courcelles and Talon on September 12th. These later added to the loves glory, forgot nothing which could do honour to the king." At last the numbers were complete, but not many were put into hospitals, sick from disease and from the long voyage, which had taken M. Talon's party 117 days at sea. This sickness was one of the reasons which delayed the war against the Iroquois."
The Choquette family held a reunion to mark the 300th anniversary of the families arrival in Canada and a large memorial stone was erected in Varennes.
Nicolas Choquette was a solider in the Carignan-Sallieres Regiment, arrived in Quebec on August 17, 1665 in the reinforcement of the Royal Troops who had arrived on June 30th; tour of duty lasted through 1667.
Hi, Cathleen. Good to hear from you. I don't know much about Etienne and Zoe's family, but I think most of them moved to Rhode Island. Their son, Achille Treffle, lived with Etienne in 1880 in Northampton. A transcript of the census is at www.familysearch.org, and the family is listed under "Stephen Shackett". I'm sending a photo to your e-mail taken about 1899, the year Etienne died. It's Etienne and his 2nd family with Ellen Ducharme. They were married in 1861 in Holyoke, MA. Do you know when and where Zoe died?

Hello the Cathy Grose who replied to this message in 2003 is my mother and i believe she had not yet learned our grandmothers name when she posted it. It is Mary Jane Trembley. She was married to J. Eugene Choquette, then divorced and we believe Eugene married one woman and had a child and left them and married another woman. J. Eugene was born in 1887 and divorced Mary Jane Trembley in 1909. Eugene lead a very shady lifestyle from what i have heard and it is possible he went by other names to avoid the law. The other wife that we know of is Gertrude St. Jean. This woman we only know of from newspaper clipping when Eugene was accussed of kidnapping a boy. Also we had relatives who were part of the ringling brothers circus. I believe one of us even has pictures.

Hi Margo, good to hear from you. To start, Etienne's 2nd wife, Ellen Ducharme was the daughter of Noel Charron dit Ducharme and Zoe Parent. Ellen's real name was Marie-Philomene Charron dit Ducharme. Etienne and Ellen were married in Holyoke, 24 Oct 1859, according to records at the Precious Blood Church. Etienne is listed as "Aken Shawket"! Etienne's first wife was Zoe Sauvage, married 30 Jan 1838, St-Nom-de-Marie. Marieville, Rouville. They had 8 children but I haven't researched them but I know some ended up in Rhode Island. After Etienne died in 1899, my grandmother Ora lived with the Heons until she joined the circus. Send me an e-mail at mikewood414@yahoo.com so we can compare notes.

Wow Mike that is great information! I have not checked back to this site in a while. That info is more than I have ever had. I am the one who gave Rick the information and I think pictures. My Dad told me that the William Ducharme in the picture was Ellen(Philomene) brother and not her son. He lived with them. Unless she did have a son by that name also. I have original pictures of the Choquette family.
I remember my dad fondly talking about his Aunt Ora, was she from Bridgeport, Conn? If you are interested in the pictures and you do not have them I would be glad to send them. One picture is of a huge family picnic I believe was taken in Westhampton, Ma. Thanks for the info on the second marriages. That explains why Ettiennes son Zoel was so much older than the rest and why he was not in any of the pictures. He was from a first marriage and lived in R.I. Do you have a complete history of all the Canadian Choquettes,I do not. They still have a Choquette reunion in Canada every year.

Hi, . My Grandmother Clarinda (Choquette) Heon was the daughter of Etienne and Philomene( Doucharme) Choquette.
I live in the area that they lived. I have been wanting to complete that genealogy but cannot find where they came from in Canada. I did try when I went to Canada. I am certain they were married there because their oldest Noel was born there. Have you had any luck with a Canadien location?

My Choquette line does a disapearing act in the mid 19th
century. My Ambroise Choquette married Henriette Blais
in Woonsocket. Did this guy go back to Quebec ? If so,
then there appears to be a succesion of Ambroise (3) and
a possible second wife for him. The given names that you
speak of are in keeping with naming trends of the time and
happen to appear many times in my Canadiens.

Dave

Pauline. Sorry, wrong Ora. I found the family you mentioned on the 1930 census, Windham County,CT, enumeration district 27, sheet 18-A. Henry and Ora Mailloux lived at 136 Klondike with their children Henry, Archie, Elizabeth, Ulric, Clara, Alphonse, and Madeline. I noticed a lot more Mailloux families in the area so you may want to check out the 1930 census for Windham County.

The circus people in NYC were my grandmother, Ora Gregoire, and maybe her mother, Malvina Choquette. Ora also used the name Choquette because she was raised by Malvina's parents, Louis and Ellen Choquette in Leeds, Massachusetts. You also mentioned Lily and her son Hubert. Malvina's other daughter was Lillian and she had a son named Herbert. Sorry it took so long for me to answer. If you want more info on the Choquette family from Leeds, please send me an e-mail at mikewood414@yahoo.com and I'll be glad to share any info I have.

I believe I know who this unknown Choquette is I believe it is Eugene Choquette. My choquette ancestors also performed with circus...i believe ringling brothers....I know that my Great great grandfather Eugene choquette had married my gg grandmother and she divorced hima nd he had later married a gertrude beede/st. jean and my mother had said that we had thought he had married another woman(my mother beklieves name Dederick) and had a child(female perhaps named constance or woman he was married to was constance)...we heard he left her before child was born.and that he was later to have been found married to the st. jean woman. Now Eugene's mother would have been Lucretia Aubrey. And his father would be Joseph I. Choquette. Eugene had a very shady past and from what I have learned he was in and out of jail for several charges. We do not know where he eventually ended up or when or where he died. Hope this helps let me know if i can help anymore.

Reply to George Christian:
My grandmother was Henrietta ("Nettie")Angeline Shackett. Her mother was Leanore E.("Nora")Shortkey (Chartier) who born 11/29/1861 in Whiting, Vermont (Parents Nicholas Chartier and Angelique Danneau of Canada). I have pretty good documentaion of this side of the family. All the information I have on Albert is:
Born 01/01/1858 at St. John's (Ste. Jeans?) Quebec, Canada?
Married Leanore at St. Thomas Rec., Brandon, VT. 02/05/1883.
Death 01/22/1890 at Cornwall, VT.
An 1880 Census (Cornwall, Addison Co., VT) showing age as 20.
An 1880 Census (Cornwall, Addison Co., VT) of possibly his brother and family(Thomas and Addie Shackett)
And, a note on information on the tombstone/headstone of
Nicholas Chartier.. referring to the Old South Cemetery, Cornwall, Vermont... "pinnacle shaped stone with Nicholas Sharkey on one face and Albert Shackett on another".
Leanore later remarried a Moses Currier. Would like to find documentation of where my great grandfather came from and who his parents were. I would appreciate any information or suggestions. I did see some papers that suggeested his parents were Zepherin Choquette and Marguerite Barjoux.
