I am looking for anyone who is interested in researching their "Chociej" family roots and looking for a connection between our two families. Some information to go by: My grandfather was Jozef Chociej born in 1910 in Poland. His father was Kazimierz Chociej. Not much but if you're interested then please e-mail me. I think I have distant relatives in Ohio and/or SanDiego. I myself now live in Canada.

Hi Joanne! I think we have talked before on ICQ...I was adopted by the Chociej family. I grew up in Illinois, but didn't know there were any other Chociejs in IL besides us!

All of my relatives lived in Steubenville OH area.

My [adoptive] grandfather was Alex Chociej, his father was Frank. Frank came over from Poland and married Teresa Brokowski in America. Both were from Warsaw. Alex Chociej married Mary Ferguson (mother's maiden name was Clancey). They had two boys, William (Bill) and Barry (my adoptive father).

Was Jozef a brother or cousin of Frank maybe? Let's put our heads together!

Yes, my ICQ nickname is apples + oranges.

There is no one named Frank in the family tree I was able to make.

The one relative that I am sure moved to the US is my grandfather's cousin from his mother's side Zofia (Sophie) whose maiden name was Chociej and whose family name may now be Hutchins. She had two sons Henryk (Henry) and Jan (John). Her mother was my great grandmother Julia Szkiladz's sister, Emilia Szkiladz. The odd thing about my family tree is that Zofia's father, whose last name was Chociej, was not directly related to my family, and yet his family and mine lived in the same village in Poland.

My father said that there were actually three unrelated Chociej families who lived in the same village at that time. However, only my uncle has stayed to live in Sokolany.

I do think it's an odd family name to have picked all those centuries ago. I'm still unsure of the etymology of the name, and I'm a native Polish speaker!

My family carries the Chociej name... I believe it was my great-grandparents who came from poland to New York in the early 1900s.

am seeking information on Wincenti (Vicent) W Chociej (born 15 April 1888 Poland and died 21 March 1960 Stubenville Ohio) and Mary M Borkowski (born March 1894 Stubenville Ohio died 1945 Stubenville Ohio)- they both lived in Stubenville Jefferson Ohio

Wincenti came to America in 1907 at the age of 19 he came from Grodno but don't know the name of the village.

Mary's family came in 1891 She is the daughter of Joseph A Borkowski and Victoria Milewski. Marriage took place in Poland. Joseph was born in Bialystak Poland - I believe this is a district, the village name maybe Loruva (sp?)

I would like to find the exact place in Poland that both the Chociej and Borkowski came from and any addl information. Both families settled in Stubenville Jefferson Ohio and I have documented that part of their life, but am now ready to cross over the pond.

Would appreciate any help, info or suggestions

Thank You
