Need clarification on CHNIELARZ surname
I need some clarification on my great-great-grandmother. I have been told her maiden name was Elizabeth BRODA, but her maiden name according to her death certificate is CHNIELARZ. She married Frank DZIEWECZYNSKI around 1889-1890 and traveled to Holdingford, MN. Any information or clarification on what her maiden name really is is much appreciated!

Re: Need clarification on CHNIELARZ surname
I am actually related to Frank Dzieweczynski's brother, John. He is my great grandfather. However, I do have some information about Frank and his family and maybe your family history will have information about John and so on. I would love to be able to share and be shared with! I have Elizabeth and Frank's obituaries for instance plus many others. I would especially love to know about any of the family descendants, like yourself! Please respond!

Re: Clarification on CHMIELARZ surname
Hi. I have just begun to research my (deceased) father's surname. He and my mother immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1952 from Poland after an extensive search for surviving relatives after WWII. He was in a concentration camp (POW) for 2 years and my mother on a German labor farm before the Americans liberated them. What I have discovered so far is that 'Chmiel' means Hops and 'arz' means son of. So apparently these individuals had something to do with Hops, either merchants, farmers or brewers. I have also come across records of individuals with this name being of hebrew persuasion either coming to American in the early 1900's with the first name of Moeshe or coming from Israel in the mid 1970's. My father said his family was/is Roman Catholic. Also I don't believe this is a very common name. Supposedly there are only about 13,000 of them in Poland so it seems a very small percentage verses the population there. Also I learned that the surname can be found in Russia as well as Austria but probably in smaller numbers.

Hi Tessa, I will forward the email to my brother Larry Dzieweczynski. He has done a lot of geneology work on our tree, as well as Vickie (wife of David my uncle) Dzieweczynski.
Your grandfather Wally, and my father Leonard, are cousins.
Happy researching! Dennis Dzieweczynski

Glad to see your posting. Your aunt and uncle (Vicky & David) are my mom's cousins (Delores Bible Carr). I know that Vicky has done a tremendous amount of work, and would love to get together with her. Haven't been in touch with that side of the family since my mom died, October 24, 2001.
Thanks much! Janelle

I am the great granddaughter of Catherine Chmielarz Weit of Rochester, New York. Her sister Elizabeth was married to Frank Dziewecynski. They lived in Holdingford, MN. Please contact. Both sisters appear to have come to the US in 1888.
