I just started looking in to my Fathers side of the family. His mothers name was Emelie Matlida Chmelar. She came to the untied states from Bohemia Czechoslovakia in 1910 at the age of 17. I don't know where in the US she started out. I do know at the age of 20 she lived in Dutch Creek Iowa that is where my father was born. His father name was Fred Mindden. but they never married. I do know she was 1 out of 11 siblings and she came to Iowa with her younger brother.

I m not sure where you are located. There are Chmelars in Iowa, Texas,. Pennsyvania and Oregon. I am not sure if any of us are really related or not. The name Chmelar means "hops grower" nd there is a providence or township as well as a lake by the Name of Chmelar in modern day Solvakia. I understand that there is also a castle that is being restored and use for a Renassiance kind of setting.

The only Chmelar I am sur of in Texas is my nephew Anthony who recently moved there. I have had some corrspondence with the Iowa Chmelar who grow Christmas trees. The Oregon connect may or may not have actually been my Grandfather's twun brother but I could never find enough info to make a diference.

If you want to know more and or would like a copy of the family as I know it at this stage e-mail me at kanasia@redred.com

None of the dirst names ring any bells but what is exciting is the ship is the same one I found that my grandmother Julia Snobl(e) arrived on. The problem is that my father Atone (aka tony) was born on Lovelady, TX in Aug. !910. His father Petre (aka Pete) worked in the coal mines there. There is a possibility that he was not listed as a passenger on any of these ships because he may have worked for his passage. Keep me informedas thiis the closest lead I have had in several years.
