My grandmother was adopted, therefore we do not know who her biological parents were. Her name was Anna and she was born on April 19, 1933 we think in Bronx NY. Anna was the 4th of 5 children. She was at the New York Foundling for a while. In 1997 I sent a letter to the Foundling asking for any information they had. They wrote back stating that her mother was 30 years old when Anna was born (this making the mother born around 1902-3). The mother had several operations and was treated at the Board of Health Clinic for Tuberculosis and was frail. The birth mother was born in Czechoslavakia, married her husband in Michigan and then moved to New York City. Anna's Biological father came to the U.S. when he was 21 from Czechoslavakia from which he was born. He was a mechanic in Detroit and then came to N.Y. in 1929. Anna was put up for adoption because the parents were unable to financialy support another child. She was put into the Foundling on January 27, 1934 and descharged on May 20, 1940. She was adopted by PPaul and Agnes Thieman of Staten Island. The other 4 children stayed with the biological parents and were never adopted out. Family memories make us think that Anna's mother's name was Stella Chmela. We also have an old photo that leads us to think that Anna had a younger sister named "Nora." If you have any information or thoughts I would gladly appriciate it. Thankyou. -Carolyn
