Please respond if you are in the Chmelar family. I need some family history, but can not find any. I am in a bit of a pickle; because I need information on my family history for school. Please help me in my search for my family history.

Hi.....I too have Chmela ancestry and have more questions than answers as to who my great-grandmother was and what happened to her. What I do know is that my greatgrandmother, Anna Chmela/Chimelar <as well as other various spellings> came to New York (Ellis Island) from Bohemia sometime during the turn of the century (19th to 20th). She gave birth to my grandmother in 1904 and two weeks later left her at New York Foundling Hospital where my grandmother spent the next several yrs until she was indentured out to a family in NH. Have always wondered what became of Anna..... inquired NYFH and info was limited. May have found her passenger listing at Ellis Island but not sure.... Always wondered if my great grandmother later married and had other children, if she made a life for herself or whether she died from the influenza or TB. I look forward to discussing ideas, suggestions as to research, leads, etc...

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your message. I don't think I can help you though. All my kin folk spelled their name CHMELAR and never any other way. They all landed at Galveston, TX and then went to Ennis, TX. There was no one name Ann or Anne.

I wish you luck in your search, however.
