I received a newpaper clipping with some family data for my family research (not related to Chleborad). On the same clipping was the following brief item:

"Gracian Chleborad who last week was found guilty of murder in the second degree after a trial lasting all week was sentenced on Wednesday last by Judge Bertram to fifty years in the penitentiary at Lansing. The Judge in connection with this sentence stated that if in the probabilities of nature Chleborad should live 51 years he would add that one year to the sentence. The use of poison to accomplish murder is a relic of the worst ages of the world, the most corrupt, licentious and irretrievably bad. As a means to fight and kill ground squirrels it is only justifiable because there is no honorable way of getting rid of them. The Borgia age does not belong to our civilization."

The clipping was from a Rawlins County, KS newspaper, and dated April 4, 1890.
