Hello

Maybe you can help me. I am looking for very old roots.
My would be Great great grandmother was Hannah Bertram ? she married a Chipchase - I have no first name. They had a Joesph chipchase, Bertrum, Polly and a Hannah (perhaps more) This Hannah Chipchase married Richard Joesph Cullington and we disowned for marrying below her class. They had childred Joesph, Hannah and Richard and another. Hannah was my grandmother who moved to Canada and married a William Gray. My grandmother is a long time passed away but I found information about this family and I am just curious. My GUncle Joesph Chipchase owned 3 or more Butcher shops and was said to be friends of the Duke of Wellington. It was said that as a child my GGrandmother lived near the Eastate fo the Earl of Durham and planed on the estate as well. That is all I know.

Thomas Chipchase

Thomas Chipchase was born ibn the north east. At sometime he went to Sheffield probably for work where he met and married Harriet Jeffreys in 1846. Thay had a daughter Jane born in 1847. After this Thomas seems to disappear. He is not with Harriet on the 1851 census and she has reverted to her married name of Jeffreys. He might have been living with someone called Isabella or Mary in 1851 at Dawsons Court, Newcastle upon Tyne. He had a brother James who also married a Sheffield girl and he was in the north east in 1851 with his wife and child at Thornly Village, County Durham. He had moved back to SHeffield by the 1861 census and stayed there for the rest of his life. Can anyone help.

I can only see the one photo - you also have several user names on Ancestry which confused me (only now have seen the other replies you sent). I have sent you an email, based on your original user name which was registered on ancestry. If you do not receive this please let me know. I have also registered one of your user names to have access to my tree. On the site you will see several photos and documents relating to the Chipchases, etc.

According to my mother, her Uncle Harry and aunt Evelyn (Doris) never had any children.

Cheers Eric.

Eric
I have attached a photo taken about 1967. On the left in a striped top is Evelyn Chipchase,my mother is in the middle and the woman on the right might be Harry [Henry] Chipchases sister,do you recognise her? Photo taken where the Chipchases were living at the time 11, Alma Close, Muswell Hill, north London. I will send a couple more photos shortly.I have Evelyns full name as EVELYN DORA MAUD OLLEY born 08 Oct 1908 in Mildenhall Suffolk and I have a Doris Chipchase death on 28 Dec 2003 aged 90+ at Hoyland near Barnsley south Yorkshire, could this be the same woman? Harry and Evelyn were married at Mildenhall, Suffolk in the June quarter 1938. Did they have any children? I have not been able to find any. Joseph Henry[Harry]Chipchase died on the 08 Jan 1968, aged 60,whilst working as a steward on a London to Liverpool train. He was cremated at St Marylebone crematorium, Finchley. I should have been working with him on the day that he died, but for some reason I did not turn in. Thats the info on Evelyn and Harry. I will send more info as I work back through the families
Regards
Martin
Hello Eric
Thanks for the photo and press cutting. I am not related to the Chipchases, but I ended up doing quite a bit of research into the family from my memory of Harry [Joseph Henry]telling me about his father Joseph being an engine driver and being involved in a railway accident,I am very interested in railways and family history.I have found the Chipchase,Stephenson and Thirkell families on most of the census forms. I have attached copy of Josephs death cert and his son Joseph Henrys birth cert, let me know if these attachments come through O.K. as I have not sent attachments on this Ancestry site before, otherwise you could send me your e-mail address. I have some photos which I will send shortly of Harry and Evelyn and a woman who maybe Harrys sister ,you may recognise her. Do you know if Harry and Evelyn had any children? More to come.
Regards
Martin Riley

Martin,

many thanks for your response - appreciated.

I am still digging to get a wider view of my family (given my mother is the last of the family, etc. and her memory is becomming less reliable).

I have no specific information on Joseph's death other than what was passed down my family. Joseph's Wife (my mothers grandmother) spent the last years of her life looking after my mother and my aunt. The stories therefore that my mother have are from this direct route.

I have attached a couple of items (marriage photo of Henry and Evelyn and local newspaper snippet). Grateful if you could confirm that these are the same individuals we are talking about - i.e. never heard the name Doris in reference to Evelyn before.

Any further information that you may have on my mothers uncle Henry would be extremly welcomed as you can appreciate (especially any decendents, etc.).

I am also intrigued as to why you posted the original item against Joseph Chipchase, given you said that you are not related but were a friend of Henry.

Happy to give you access to the tree I am compiling at the moment if this is of interest to you, etc. Early picture of Henry in his army days - I have always been likened to him for some reason (mainly my mother and aunt's memory of him).

As I have said - any information would be extremely welcome. Take care,

Eric Faulder

Joseph and Jane Ann were my great grandparents (on my mother's side (Chipchase). My mother is Thelma Chipchase, her father was Benjamin, son of Joseph and Jane.

I see you have also tagged surname of Olley. Within my tree I have my grandfathers brother Henry marrying an Evelyn Olley.

P.S. Yes - Joseph did die in a railway accident and is buried at Saltwell Cemetery in Gateshead.

Extremely interested in widening my "chipchase" side of the family tree, so grateful for any further information you can provide. Happy to also give you access to my tree.

Hi Jackie
Yes, I believe he married Sara Smith at St Dunstan`s in 1828. Joseph was I believe the son of a John and Elizabeth Chipchase, who was a cordwainer/shoemaker.
Yes, I would love to share any information you could kindly give me. I am trying to trace this Chipchase family. I am connected to Jonathan Chipchase, shoemaker, who married Frances Pullen and then Isabella Dale.
I think from the information I have gathered that John and Jonathan are brothers but this is not conclusive.
I have been doing some further research recently and may have made a break through.
However, I have this Chipchase family quite difficult to find as many of the births I have been unable to trace and would appreciate any help.
Best wishes
Ros

I worked for "chippy's" practice for a number of years so i new this chap quite well. I didnt know about his earlier years but at this he at the time had a wife called Doreen and a son called Maxwell. Max is probably in his early thirties. I think chippy retired about 6 years ago but his practice name is still running and they are i believe based in Gateshead UK. Not sure if he has any involvement.
I believe his home was on Thornhill Road, Forest Hall, Newcastle. You could try 192.com for electoral information good luck.
This is a bit of a long shot but there is a dj in london called max chipchase and i think he fronts north star entertainments. Worth checking out as i know max lived in London and was into music

I knew of a Ronald Chipchase living close to Newcastle. He is an Architect probably in his early 70's now. Not sure if that helps. If it fits you can probably find more info on the RIBA web site.

I am sorry that this is so late in getting on to you. My Chipchase family is from Sacramento in the period 1915 - present. However, I know that there was a Chester Garfield Chipchase family living in Stockton around this same period. One son was named Paul -- should be in mid-60's -- and was married to a woman named Anne who was in advertising in the 60s - 80s in New York. If you have information on Calvert Graham Chipchase, originally from Newcastle on Tyne, England, younger brother of John Graham and son of John Calvert Chipchase, please let me know.

Hello everyone =) I'm looking for some info on my mother's father; Ronald Chipchase. She hasn't seen him since a couple years after her birth. She's 39 right now going on 40 this year. Both her and I (I'm 17) are interested in what's happened with him and such. Unfortunatly, all I know about the history of my last name is that it orginated in Northern England around Northumberland and/or around Newcastle. Any information would be appreciated! ^_^

Best Regards,

Ryan J. Chipchase

Hi Val,

I have Chipchase ancestors from the Stockton & Yarm areas. My ancestor James would have been born around 1840, the son of John, but I haven't been able to find any record of his birth as yet. James married Sarah Jane Carter in 1860 and they had three children: Ann Elizabeth, James & William.

Do any of these names seem familiar to you.

Michelle

Hi

The Stockton Chipchase family were Quakers so births and deaths will have to be found in the Monthly Meeting records of the Society of Friends. Have still to look at these myself. My connection is with William Green who married Martha Chipchase in 1734, bu I have some information on later generations, though not the particular John Chipchase you mention.

Hallo Valerie

I am also researching the Chipchase family of Stockton-on-Tees, England. It seems complicated because they were Quakers. My particular interest is with Martha Chipchase who married William Green in Stockton 1734. She had a twin sister Mary. I also have some information about John Chipchase, schoolmaster in Stockton, died 1821.
