Helen CHIASSON m. Benjamin Leo ELLIS

I spoke to a funeral home that made the arrangements for my grandmother's uncle in 1995. They told me My gt Granduncle? Benjamin L (leo) Ellis died at 92 years old and the informant of his information was by a "sister Mary Green, his Niece" and gave me an address in ny ny. (the address is no longer listed to her)
When contacting the Archidiocese regarding information on the plot all they would tell me was that his wife resides next to him and that her name was Helen Chiasson (their spelling of name) They would not give me further information unless I paid them a genealogical research fee!( which is too high for my min wage income!) Anyway If anyone may have information on this connection please contact me. thank you
Danielle

looking for Mi'kmaq relatives

James Chiasson is my father, he is 87 Augustine was my grandfather, Joseph, born 1853 was his father and Joseph, born 1877 was his father, Benoni, no birth date, but died in 1854 was son of Joseph born 1733--I have a family history book that goes back to the mid 1600's, when Chiasson was Giasson. The research was really done on my grandmothers family, the last name being Gionet. My grandparents were third cousins, which was not so unusual in those days, so I found history for both grandparentsin the same book. I know that the first Frenchman to arrive in Canada in my family was Francois Gionet who married a Mi'kmaq woman , last name Rousseau. There are many names in my book which I know to be also Mi'kmaq. I attend native gatherings and am on a womens native drum, I would love to find another family member who might have a closer native connection for me. All of the above mentioned names are from Caraquet NB. I have, for quite a few years gone up to Red Bank, NB for the annual Powwow, but will not be able to attend this year. If any of my cousins are reading this, please get back to me, I would love to hear from you. Maybe I can find some info for you in my book. Walk in beauty.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) July 6, 2003

Elias J. Chiasson, an English professor at St. Louis University for more than 30 years, died Thursday (July 3, 2003) of cancer. He was 85 and lived in Dupo.

Professor Chiasson was born May 29, 1918, in the coal mining region of Nova Scotia. His father, once a coal miner, opened a general store so his children might be able to choose a different path in life. Professor Chiasson worked in the mines but later became the only one of 15 children in his family to complete college. A boxer as an undergraduate, he
received degrees from both French and English universities in Canada. He earned a doctorate in 18th-century English literature from the University of Toronto.

Professor Chiasson joined the Canadian Navy in World War II and served aboard a destroyer escort as a lieutenant.

On Aug. 7, 1944, he married Mary O'Brien in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They had seven children. She died in 1989.

He taught at Rockhurst College in Kansas City until 1953, when he moved to St. Louis to teach at St. Louis University. He remained there until 1987, when he retired as a full professor.

On May 6, 1994, he married Jean Jackson LaForge in Cahokia.

Full text, including names of surviving family, may be found at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/NOVA-SCOTIA/2005-09/112... .
I was in the 1881 census using the LDS index and came across the name Chessong! What else could it be but Chiasson? the census taker in the area (Margaree Harbour) was really butchering the French spellings, and translating many names from French to English. my email is Lamadeus@aol.com if you have a question.

Chiasson families - New Hampshire, Mass. - Henry? Lillian? 6 children

I am trying to find something on the line of Chiasson's that were in New England when their children were born, I believe in MA, at least the older children were born there in the 1930's. They had 4 boys I believe and 2 daughters. I am not sure if they were Henry? or Lillian?? The parents would have been born in the very early 1900's. I also am wondering if the father of these children could have been one of the boys mentioned on this board that was raised in a Catholic childrens home?? ANY INFO APPRECIATED
dtss@blomand.net

I don't have much to go on but my Grandfather was Jerry Albany Chiasson, his both parents died and he and his brothers were raised in what I believe was a Catholic Boys Home probably in NH but possible Vt, this would have been in early 1900s or so, I'm hoping one of his brothers had family with some lineage info., I don't even know the parents'names. Any leads would be great including what home might meet that description in New England area (I'm in the south now so I don't have the luxury of exploring up north) Thanks for any clues - Lyn

some spelling variations: Chaisson / Chiasson / Chesson

If you are tracing your lineage, look under all three spellings in your research. My great-grandmother's name was Chesson, but I have relatives who use both of the other spellings. bambi@prysm.net
