Dear Louise, I was very happy to hear from you today. I don't know where to start. My family book is titled Les Descendants de Francois Gionet. The ISBN # is 0-9692458-0-7. I have no idea where you could get a copy. It's in half French and English. The author is Alexandre Jean Gionet. He lives in Wells, Maine, USA. The book is nearly two inches thick and starts in France. The history is my paternal grandmothers family, Gionet, but there are 59 Chiassons mentioned in it. My grandparents were third cousins. The book is very hard to understand. There is a chart in the back which shows where the family started and the first few branches of it. Francoise, the first Frenchman to go to Canada, married a Mi'Kmaq woman whose last name was Rousseau. It shows that the next generation were Metisse, meaning half blood, and the next generation, quarter blood. Beyond that, there is no mention of native. My father warned me when he gave me this book that the man who wrote the book, although part native himself, was an "Indian" hater and not to expect to find any native info in the book. He was right. Except for the chart in the back, there is nothing. My father tells me that his parents were, however, both half blood. When I look through the book I see many French names that are also known to be Mi'kmaq. I know that from having been to Red Bank Reservation in NB many times and discussing it with my friends there. I know from my own spirit that I am native, beyond that, I have no proof. I need someone on the rolls who is in my family. I don't know how to go about that. Louise, as far as giving you names and dates, I wouldn't know where to start. There are a zillion in this book. If you can give me some names, I would gladly look then up and give you any info I can. I only wish I had time to give you all 59 and the info that goes with them at once!! HAHA Unfortunately, I have to work for a living. By the way, I am 55 years old and live in Pennsylvania, USA. That's all I have time for now. Let me hear from you, cousin, and I will do what I can to help you. atiyu {good-bye} for now, Gracie
