Classification: Query
Surnames: Chiasson, Giasson, Gionet, Rousseau
James Chiasson is my father, he is 87 Augustine was my grandfather, Joseph, born 1853 was his father and Joseph, born 1877 was his father, Benoni, no birth date, but died in 1854 was son of Joseph born 1733--I have a family history book that goes back to the mid 1600's, when Chiasson was Giasson. The research was really done on my grandmothers family, the last name being Gionet. My grandparents were third cousins, which was not so unusual in those days, so I found history for both grandparentsin the same book. I know that the first Frenchman to arrive in Canada in my family was Francois Gionet who married a Mi'kmaq woman , last name Rousseau. There are many names in my book which I know to be also Mi'kmaq. I attend native gatherings and am on a womens native drum, I would love to find another family member who might have a closer native connection for me. All of the above mentioned names are from Caraquet NB. I have, for quite a few years gone up to Red Bank, NB for the annual Powwow, but will not be able to attend this year. If any of my cousins are reading this, please get back to me, I would love to hear from you. Maybe I can find some info for you in my book. Walk in beauty.
