My great grandmother has 3 different names and her family has two last names. I've been told my whole life that she was full blooded Indian. I've always been told that her name was Martha A. Chestnut, she's also listed as Torney Churey Chesney and Tomey Martha Chesney. Her sister is Lavinda Flynt Chesney, however their actual birth last name is Wofford, sometimes spelled Woford and Wolford. She was married to David Crockett Coleman but there is no record that I can find of a marriage license.


So I'm wondering if there was adopting or something else going on in this particular time.
