Horace Douglas or David Cherry, AL or OK?

I am trying to find out if my father and half brother are still alive. I believe my father's name was Horace Douglas Cherry or Douglas Horace Cherry. I also believe he was born around 1926, possibly in Oklahoma. I was born in Millen, Ga in 1959 while my mother, Inez Mitchell Cherry, and my father were travelling. I also believe he was an electrician or high voltage engineer or something of that nature. My parents separated when I was a year old and I only have one recollection of seeing him, when I was about 8, here in Opelika, Al. He may have died around 1975, I am not sure. I am also looking for a half brother whose name I believe was David and may have been born around 1956 or 1957, a couple of years before me. I do not know David's mother but I believe they lived in South Alabama.I also think I remember my mother saying that I have American Indian blood in me, which would have had to come from my father's side of the family. If you can shed any light onto my family or perhaps whether Cherrys were Indian, I'd appreciate it. I think they are both deceased now, as is my mother, but if there are any living relatives,I'd like to be in contact with them. Thank you.

Joseph Carver and Eliza Cherry

I can't find any information on the parents of Eliza Cherry, who seems also to be known as Nancy Cherry. I have a marriage date for Eliza and Joseph as March 1834, and a birthdate for their son Robert as June 1834. I haven't been able to confirm either of these dates, but what if Eliza Cherry was really the widow of a man named Cherry? Her daughter Martha has the middle name of Cherry and her daughter Elizabeth has the middle name of Smith. What if Eliza Cherry was really Eliza Smith, married a man named Cherry, was widowed and then remarried Joseph Carver? If anyone can shed any light on this, please contact me.

I am looking for any info on an Andrew Cherry (auctioneer, watch repairman, perhaps from Armaugh County, Ireland) and Winifred Mesney in Ireland. I don't believe they ever came to America.
They had several children, Josephine (nurse?), Winifred, Andrew Thomas MIller Cherry (my Great Grandfather) who did come to America. Andrew Thomas lived in Alabama, Chicago where my Grandfather Robert Andrew Cherry, Sr. was born in 1899. They then ended up in Portage County, Ohio where his wife possibly divorced him and he died in 1936.

Any info available would be greatly appreciated!!! I do have several photos of them with notations (Thank Heaven!!), they must have had some money back them because the photos were done in a studio setting, but I have no dates and would be thrilled to get anything.

Jeff Cherry shoots and kills Noah Tigoa

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 17 October 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

INDIAN KILLED AT NORTON

Last Sunday evening at Norton Jeff Cherry, the postmaster, shot Noah Tioga, an Indian, from the effects of which Tioga died Tuesday evening.

The causes which led to the killing, so far as The Herald has been able to learn, go back to former trouble between Cherry and Tioga while Cherry was living at Mannsville. It seems that at that time Mr. Cherry was town marshal or precinct constable, and in arresting Tioga, or some kind of trouble with him, struck the Indian with his pistol, and rumor says that from that day to the shooting ill feeling existed between the two.

Last Sunday Tioga and two other Indians were at Norton and Tioga, being under the influence of boot-leg whiskey, so report goes, tried to get into a disturbance with Cherry. The other Indians got Tioga in a buggy and started off with him when Tioga told Cherry that either he or Cherry had to die. They didn’t go far before Tioga got out and started back to Cherry’s store. Cherry saw him coming and called to him several times to stop, but Tioga kept advancing and when he started to get up on the porch Cherry told him again to stop, this time snapping one barrel of the gun, which was unloaded, thinking that would stop the Indian. He attempted to get on the porch and when he did Cherry raised his gun and fired, but J. B. Keitn who was there, attempted to knock the gun down, causing the charge to enter the lower part of his bowels, from which he died Tuesday evening. After being shot Tioga walked a few steps to a blackjack tree, where he steadied himself, and then started again, falling down an embankment fifteen or twenty feet. When parties got to him his entrils were hanging out in the sand. A physician was summoned and his wound dressed, but as stated, he died Tuesday evening.

The examining trial came up at Tishomingo Wednesday.

Mr. Cherry gave bond Thursday to await action of the grand jury.
Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi

Ocie E. Martin was born in 1899 in Arkansas to Lillie Bell Martin who was born in 1875 in South Carolina. Ocie or O.E. Martin's Father's name ??? O.E. may have been born out of wedlock. Lille Bell married George W. Cherry between 1899 and before 1902. Four children were born during this marriage some-where in Louisiana. I beleive they moved back to Arkansas where Lillie Bell and two children died before 1910 with yellow fever. It is beleived (even though there are no headstones that Lillie and the two children are buried in Rock Springs Cemetery in Montecillo, Arkansas. Two children survived, Ora Lee Cherry amd George Martin Cherry. They spent a little time in an orphanage but are listed in the 1910 census with their Father Gerge Cherry in 1910 in Drew County Arkansas. George married Gatsie Clarender Livingston in 1913 in Mississippi who raised Ora and George Martin. O.E. or Ocie was sent to live with relatives after his Mother's death. The next time I can locate him is the Dallas, Texas census in 1930 living with his wife Gracie Taylor, two children Louise and Irvin, Father-in-law Walter Taylor, Robert and Elmer Taylor who were Gracie's brothers. Any information I could receive on any of these people who be greatly appreciated.
John Cherry born in Bray 1619

After playing with the sites on the WWW for the past year I too have found no relationship between the John Cherry born in Bray (Berkshire) in 1619. My father had left a family tree tracing the Cherrys of Maidenhead and Bray back to the 1300's but I found no connection to the John that married Elizabeth Faithful and would seem to be the ancestor of most of the Cherrys in America. John was allegedly born in 1619 which is two years before the marriage of Thomas Cherry to Ellen Powney. They were the parents of the John Cherry that remained in Maidenhead and was the father John the Younger who also remained in England. I uspect our John was an illegiimate child of Thomas or one of his brothers and that when he was a teenager he became too much and they "shipped him out". Or he was an early case of "identity theft". There is reference to a court order of 6-6-1635 that order John to Virginia. Has anyone ever seen this Court Order? Olliver Sprye was a "Headrighter" and received 50 acres for each boy whose passage he paid. From other sites on the WWW, I believe that they arrived here in 1637 not 1635 but I have been unable to locate a ship or port. Does anyone have this information?

Looking for info on the following people-- John Miller( 1888),James Miller(1890) and Joseph Miller( 1895) Last found living in Marion Co W.V.with their mother Mary and stepfather John Cherry. The two older boys worked in the mines with their stepfather. Also living with them was a younger sister Elsie or Irene (1904). I think these are the children of Marshall Miller from Fayette Co Pa. According to the 1910 pa census this is the 2nd marriage for John and Mary and they have been married for 3 years. By 1920 John and Mary have moved to Clay,Harrison W.V. but no sign of the boys. Irene Griffth is living with them listed as stepdaughter. Either John has another stepdaughter the same age as Elsie or or they change her name and she got married at 16.John Cherry died in W.V. but I can't find any records for Mary or the children

Hi,
I am only beginning to search the Cherry side of my family which branches back on my mother's side. When I am able to gather together my info I will be sure to share it here as well as on my webpage at http://home.att.net~rlhnc. You may be able to find a little info by looking at my gedcom file. I can tell you that my great grandmother was Abby Cherry and her father was Howard Cherry b. 5/25/1831 d. 12/13/1907 and her mother was Felishia Burnette d. 11/5/1894. Does that help any? The family was located in Martin and Edgecombe Counties of North Carolina.
Good luck,
Ron Haislip

Cherry is a name of interest for the Lost Colony..NC

First the Lost colony project is a non profit organisation.

>From the Administrator of the Project:

Is your family part of the Roanoke Lost Colony? It could be! My name is Roberta
Estes and I'm the Director for DNA Research for the Lost Colony Center for
Science and Research. (_www.lost-colony.com_ (http://www.lost-colony.com/) )
Our goal is to discover the fate of the Roanoke Lost Colonists. For those of you
who don't know about the mystery of the Lost Colony, here's a primer. In 1587,
Sir Walter Raleigh financed a venture in which 116 men,
women and children were planning to establish the first permanent colony in the
New World. Their goal was to raise tobacco and other supplies that colonists
were unable to obtain in England, and to search for precious minerals, like
gold.
In the fall of 1587, the colonists finally arrived on Roanoke Island in present
day North Carolina, after a very difficult journey in which their food supplies
were ruined. They sent John White, whom they had elected governor, back
to England to obtain food and supplies and expected his return in the spring of
1588. However, the Spanish attached England and England, having no Navy,
impressed all of her fishing vessels and private merchant ships into Naval
service. Finally, in 1590, three years after leaving the colonists which
included his daughter, son-in-law and infant granddaughter, he returned to
Roanoke Island to find it deserted, but not destroyed. It appeared as if the
colonists had simply moved. A single word, a clue, Croatan, was carved on a
tree. The Croatan were the friendly Indians living nearby. Before John's
departure, he had instructed the colonists to carve crosses if they had to leave
in distress. There were no crosses.
John White would spend the rest of his life searching for the Lost Colonists.
Many hints and clues indicate that at least some of the Colonists survived and
were assimilated into the native tribes. The question is, did they, and if
so, who are they today? In 1993, the original site of the Croatan village was
located. Subsequent archaeological and genealogical research suggests that the
colonists did
survive, and that when the land was granted to settlers, it was granted to some
of those survivors who were by that time considered to be Indians. With recent
advances in DNA for genealogy, we finally have, today, the ability to solve the
mystery. We have created a plan that combines history, genealogy and DNA to
solve the mystery. However, we can't do this alone. We need the help of the
families who have been identified as "families of interest", being either
roster members of the Lost Colony of those who obtained land grants on the
original Croatan village site. Many of those names are the same.
In order to educate people and work closely with people who are interested, we
are sponsoring the Lost Colony Symposium for DNA and Recent Research Sept.

7-9, 2007 at the Lost Colony Center in Williamston, NC. The symposium will be
held between the Center and the Holiday Inn, as noted on the flyer at
_http://www.lost-colony.com/DNAsymflyer.html_
(http://www.lost-colony.com/DNAsymflyer.html) .
Given that your surname is one of those on our "Names of Interest" list, I hope
that people on the list will join with us in our research. I am hoping from this
mailing, aside from encouraging people to attend the Symposium, to
achieve the following:
1. To identify a primary research person or persons for your particular surname
who would serve as a contact/ coordinator for future postings, requests and
research.
2. To identify a family archival website(s) if one exists.
3. To identify if there are any families of that surname that are from NC (or
early coastal SC or VA), have oral histories of Indian or "mixed" heritage, are
involved with any of the tri-racial isolate groups (Melungeons, Red Bones, etc.)
and/or have any oral history of the Lost Colonies.
4. To determine if the family group is involved already with DNA testing, and if
so, who coordinates that effort.
5. To determine if there is any research occurring or that has occurred for your
surname in Great Britain, and if not, if anyone is interested in pursuing that
avenue.
To become involved with the Lost Colony project, or to support the project,
please attend our Symposium. Our project plan will be announced at the
Symposium, and we have a long list of wonderfully educational speakers. Bring
your pedigree charts and your genealogy as the right people will be present to
help you with your testing plan.
If you can't attend the conference, you can still join the project. Information
will be posted shortly about how to do that on the Lost Colony website. We are
in the process of setting us a private newsgroup for project members
only which will also be available after the symposium.

Looking for the family of George Cherry (List'd as George H. Cherry on the 1850 cesus) b: abt 1802 in SC per census record. He married a Margaret Lourany (Surname unknown) in GA before 1838. I found them on the 1850 census in Upson Co., GA and on the 1860 census in Muscogee Co., GA without George, listing Margaret as head of household. On the 1870 census, I found the family without George in Augusta, Richmond Co., GA, so I'm assuming he passed away sometime between 1853 (last child born) and 1850, probably in Muscogee Co., GA.

Any help greatly appreciage
