I am particularly interested in the Cheeke families of north east Glamorgan, the parishes of Gellygaer and Merthyr Tydfil. Also their origins in Somerset - the oarish of Kingstone where a name change occurs to Chick. So far in Kingstone the Chick family goes back to the early 1800s, but others are later in the century. Any George Cheeke / Chick mid 19th., C would be most useful.

Hi William,

I'm a descendant of the Brice family of Allowenshay/Kingstone in Somerset and am trying to trace my ancestors from there. I believe, through this family, that I have a George Chick connection.

I can go back to George Brice (born 1797 in Allowenshay) - wife unknown (possibly Jane Scriven). They had five children - William, Sarah, Caroline, Ann and Jane.

In 1848 Sarah Brice married George Chick and they had at least 6 children - George (1848), Henry Thomas (1849), Luke (1854), Sarah Ann (1857), Job (1859) and Frederick (1870). Unfortunately I have been unable to trace these children and have no idea what happened to them.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Jodie.
